District Governor Job Description

General Function:

The primary responsibility of the District Governor is to enthuse, encourage and inspire Rotarians in the district in pursuit of the Object of Rotary.

·  Represents Rotary International in the district.

·  Ensures continuity of leadership

·  Promotes membership

·  Promotes support of The Rotary Foundation

·  Promotes all Rotary activities and programs including the Rotary International theme

·  Sets district goals and leads officers at district and club level

·  Strengthens existing clubs in their service activities both locally and internationally

Qualifications:

·  Be an active Rotarian in good standing.

·  Be a Rotarian for a minimum of 7 year prior to taking office

·  Have served as President of a Rotary Club for a full term.

·  Have the financial support and sponsorship of his or her Rotary Club.

·  Be ready, willing, and able to serve.

Object of Rotary:

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

·  The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

·  High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

·  The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

·  The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service

Specific Responsibilities of the District Governor

The District Governor has the following specific responsibilities:

·  Provides for training within the district by providing leadership and/or support for the following activities/events:

o  Annual Foundation Seminar – Club Certification program

o  Pre P.E.T.S. - President Elect Training Seminar.

o  P.E.T.S. - President Elect Training Seminar.

o  District Leadership – Assistant Governor Training

o  District Training Assembly

o  Membership Development Seminar

o  Rotary Leadership Institute

o  Conducts District meetings

·  Fosters continuity of district and club leadership by working with past, current and incoming district and club leaders

·  Provides support for existing clubs including an official club visit, monthly District Governor communication to Club Presidents and Secretaries and ensures the establishment of membership and foundation support goals.

·  Promotes membership retention and the recruitment of new members

·  Encourages support and contributions to The Rotary Foundation

·  Assure that district nominations and elections are conducted in accordance with the RI constitution and bylaws.

·  Encourages effective club administration by monitoring election of officers, promotes effective public presence in the community including club websites and public relations. Encourages effective record keeping including club attendance, legal compliance, member database management at the club, district and RI levels.

·  Hold an effective district conference.

·  Ensure the governor-elect is fully trained and has made proper preparation for training meetings for incoming officers.

·  Ensure that members of the district team are fulfilling their responsibilities and that there is effective leadership within the district.

·  The monitoring of District Finances and adherence to the District Budget

Key Performance Indicators:

Successful performance by the District Governor will include the following:

·  Effective clubs throughout the district which address the needs of their community and provide programs and support both locally and internationally

·  Club goals established by clubs and reviewed by district leadership

·  District goals established and reviewed by clubs and district leadership

·  Increased number of members, improved retention and attraction of new members

·  Increased knowledge, enthusiasm and financial contributions to The Rotary Foundation

·  Positive view of the value of district officers and effectiveness of motivation by governor, which is demonstrated / measured by Rotarians participating in service activities.

·  Higher levels of competence and enthusiasm in district officers and greater numbers of club Rotarians wanting to participate in district leadership and activities

·  Increase attendance at district meetings

·  A stimulating and information monthly Governor communication (newsletter)
