20th May 2014
May is Australian Rotary Health Month
President’s Report – 20th May 2014.
I had some great news recently when the War Graves Commission identified my Great Uncle Albert Williamson through DNA. Albert passed at Fromelles on 19th July, 1916. Sue and I will be arriving in Brussels 16th July then travelling to Fromelles in France on the 19th July for a headstone recognition service followed by a ceremony for identified soldiers families at the ‘Cobbers’ School. We are then travelling to Switzerland to visit with our club’s exchange student Victoria Buchs and her family followed by a 10 day bus trip around Switzerland. We are returning home on the 4th August.
Our visitors from Canada are arriving on the 21st May and a gathering is at the Calala Inn that night at 6pm. Numbers are being sought of those that wish to attend.
The big banners and small posters for the Rotary Book Sale have been removed. A total of over $36,000 has been raised. A big THANK YOU to all our volunteers for their assistance over the sorting and sale periods at the book sale. Nemingha Op-Shop has almost completed the removal of the left over books.
I had received a quote of $2,500 for a 40 feet container 9 feet 6 inches high with transport of $1,600 totalling $4,100. I have purchased the container for $2,145 and have a quote of $545 for transport totalling $2,690. It sure pays to shop around.
We have ordered a new Rotary Marquee 3x3 meters, same as the other one to be ready for the upcoming Festival of Flight, 2014. Ken Hall is attending meetings pertaining to this Festival.
To date 18/5/2014 I have sold 56 books on eBay for over $1,720, an average of over $30.00 each. A total of $369 has been given to the treasurer. The remainder will be presented on the 27th May.
Paul Ying and his volunteers have been selling the new Bowelscan kits and the sale has now been completed on Saturday last with 290 kits sold by the chemists and 551 kits sold by our club members. A very impressive contribution by all of our volunteers, thank you.
Jess Fernando and some of the other 2014 RYLArians that we met at the Booksale will be at our meeting this week with Jess as guest speaker.

NYSF registration phase closing May 31
Students interested in attending the coming year’s NYSF program have until May 31 to register on the NYSF website. If you know of anyone that has yet to register, please encourage them to do so, and remind them to fill in ALL details asked of them on the website. This includes listing a Rotary Club. THE most
important matter at this stage is to get that registration into the system.
Conversations with potential Rotary Clubs to seek sponsorship can happen in the ‘window’ from May 31 – June 30, when all paperwork is to have been
received by myself.

PDG Brian Prince a loving husband, father and a good friend to many.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all Rotarians and their partners for emails, phone calls, flowers and most of all your support. It was a long arduous road for Brian and he fought all the way, unfortunately he gave up his fight on the 3rd April 2014.
Without the Rotary family I would have been very lonely, the support that I received right through Brian’s journey was exceptional. Brian is now at peace.
“Gone fishing” “Gone, but never to be forgotten” Thank you Laurel Prince and Family
