Director’s Report

Tom attended the Summer MN Hockey meeting and reported the following:

-  MN Hockey will be giving each MN Hockey association two changes of quick change goalie gear. More information will follow.

-  Numbers for goal tending is down across the state.

-  Cat eye goalie masks are not legal for youth hockey. Associations are asked to let their teams know.

-  AA teams going to Regions will mirror how the other levels are currently doing it.

-  Tier 1 joined with District 8 due to lower numbers. This was the first year for it. Tom is hoping that his recommendations are taken next year for the program. The fees were very high.

-  Doug and Howie are running a Bantam and PeeWee fall camp. Information is posted on the website.

-  Bylaw changes

Reduction in the number of full ice mite games. Mites cannot play full ice games until after December 31 with a limit of 6 full ice games played in total. Mite teams cannot go out of state. District Director cannot approve them to go out of the state according to the MN Hockey rules. District Director can approve them to go out of the district with approval from the other District Director as well. Tom will be asking that it be District Director discretion due to Associations that are close to the boarders and will obtain clarification at the fall meeting.

Kathy and Tom will work on the Operations Manual and will bring it to the fall meeting for review/approval.

We currently have a rule for fighting that is tougher than MN Hockey. It is written rather confusing and needs to be simplified. M/S/A Red Wing/Rochester to go back to the USA Hockey rule for a player sitting one game for fighting.

New Business

Get team projections to Scott. Those numbers do not have to stay that way, but planning is taking place. Final team projections are due by October 3.

Tournament Report

Tom reported that when associations host a regions or state tournament, there will be no goal judges. The other item that changed is five on five throughout, but after the third period goal tenders will switch ends once and remain at the other end for the remainder of the game. Tom will talk to the coaches about this at the scheduling meeting.

Old Business

Discussion was had regarding a pilot program being ran this year regarding ice resurfacing after two periods for Bantam A and B games. Ice is resurfaced for AA teams in District 9. District 8 does not resurface ice after two periods. Ice rinks are starting to charge for ice resurfacing and the referees are charging more for games where the ice is resurfaced. It is difficult for associations that only have sheet of ice to take the time to resurface. It was agreed that it needs to be uniform across the board. Each association is asked to go back to talk to their association and Bantam A and B coaches to see if their ice schedule allows for resurfacing for Bantams A and B games. If eight league games are scheduled, that would add two hours of ice needed for that schedule. This item will be brought back at the fall meeting for final discussion. As a pilot program, it was suggested that it be piloted at the Bantam A level to see how it goes.
