DISCUSSION TOPIC: Tools and Tale of Post-Award Management
As research administrators we are constantly trying to find innovative and improved ways of maximizing our efficiency, engaging with our investigators, and minimizing risks inherent in sponsored research management. And though post-award has a distinctly fiscal ring to it, as we all know managing research projects is more difficult than simply plugging numbers into a spreadsheet. We frequently encounter challenges that can complicate money management like getting our investigators to engage with us in a meaningful way regarding their portfolio, ensuring that spending rates are appropriate to the amount received, designing spreadsheets that will provide faculty with the information they need to adjust their spending patterns, and tailoring our management strategies to each investigator. We navigate all of these complexities while trying to maintain and continue running the business of research. Join our group of panelists as they share some of the tools they have accumulated over the years to address some of these issues, and demonstrate how they have been useful to them in the past.
