Discussion 2: Compare Presentation Software
I think software such as PowerPoint, Keynote, and Prezi are used to present information to people during presentations or other limited events. Powerpoints are usually created, presented, and then forgotten about or used only once in a while. Webpages on the other hand, are meant to make interest last much longer, and to be accessible to a wide range of people. Our group used Google Slides to create our presentation which was much easier than compiling information for a Powerpoint or for a Prezi. Not only was this simpler, but we believe it was also more fair because nobody had to complete more work than the other group members or compile our information by themselves. We are all able to find our information, and post it to a single slide show that we can access and put our names on after finishing our parts. When working in groups, it can often be difficult to find proper times to meet due to everyone’s busy schedules. In terms of being alike, Webpages and tools such as PowerPoint are easily accessible and great for providing quick information. The differences between the two lie in their abilities and purposes, websites connect people whereas PowerPoints are downloadable and do not have to be shared by
anyone once they reach completion.
For professional and business situations it is often better to use Webpages because they can be constantly updated, modified, and accessed by people. If someone wants to quickly create a class presentation or present an option for a job, PowerPoint and Prezi would be the best option. Since PowerPoint and Prezi are so easily accessible and sometimes very basic, websites tend to stand out more and are capable of more features such as comments where people can share their ideas. I believe companies and other organizations should build their own websites, yet at the same time I believe they should also upload valuable and informative PowerPoint presentations for others to download and enjoy in their free time. To me, the basic idea behind a Prezi or a PowerPoint is to quickly present information, whereas a webpage is a comprehensive area of information and entertainment that participants can access and change whenever they please.
I envision my website as being both resourceful and interesting while still appealing to the eye. I want it to look professional, something people would feel comfortable using and also sharing with others. I would also like my website to contain stories, videos, use submitted articles, and also a comments section where people can freely speak about the content. I would also like a ratings section for my content to help me know if users are finding certain features to be useful to their education. I would also like for people to enjoy visiting my website as well, and to be excited when a new podcast or video is added to the site. Interviews would be interesting to add to my website as well. I think people would like reading or listening to an interview focused on someone they look up to, or someone they know personally.
Some features I would like to have would be a video playlist for people to choose from as well as a comments section for each video. I think it would be neat for people to also be able to post their own pictures or videos to the site and share with people. I also think a live feed would be interesting, sort of like twitter in which people can view and discussion trending topics. I am not sure if this idea would work, but it would be nice if people could create their own accounts on the website as well. I would also like to know how to add more graphics to my webpage. I want to add some colors and images to make the website stand out. I would also like to see if I could add banners or tables to differentiate between each category. Another feature I would like to know how to add would be a download section in which people can download things they find to be interesting.
