Accountability:Pastor as Head of Staff and Christian Education Committee of Session

Purpose:To develop, plan, coordinate and lead Youth Group and the after-school Homework Club elementary tutoring program of Northwood Presbyterian Church.

Qualifications:

  1. Strong Christian faith with ability to communicate it through example and interactions.
  2. Ability to care for and relate to children, youth and adults.
  3. Possess good creativity, organizational ability and leadership skills.
  4. Be a self-starter, accomplish goals in a timely fashion, have good communication skills and be able to work with a minimum of direct supervision.
  5. Demonstrate at least two years of volunteer or paid staff experience in similar position, and any combination of educational or work experiences in religious/Biblical studies.
  6. Successful completion of the required background check. References are required.

Responsibilities:

  1. With the Christian Education Committee, plan, develop, implement and maintain Northwood ministry programs for children and youth (grades 1-12). This would include three main priorities/responsibilities: Youth Group (younger teen already underway and high school), Youth Church on Sunday mornings and Homework Club after-school tutoring program (grades 1-6).
  2. Coordinate recruitment, training, empowering and supervision of volunteer tutors, leaders and workers, as it relates to youth ministry.
  3. Encourage, develop and maintain Christ-like relationships with all ages of students and their families.
  4. Review, propose and assess curriculum in conjunction with the Reformed/Presbyterian faith and the Christian Education Committee.
  5. Provide communication about tutoring and youth programs to students, parents, neighbors, other staff and church congregation via weekly bulletin, monthly newsletter, email, Web site, social media and bulletin boards.
  6. Update and keep a database and phone/mailing list of children and families in conjunction with the church office.
  7. Provide a safe environment that protects children and youth and maintains good stewardship of the church building.
  8. Notify Christian Education Committee and church secretary of youth group and tutoring schedule (all on or off-campus events). Notify custodian of any necessary room setups.
  9. Work with Christian Education Committee and volunteers to plan, promote and supervise special activities, Vacation Bible School, fundraisers and mission/work trips. Promote participation in Camp Spalding, and affiliate with other Christian and denominational youth/family organizations.
  10. Attend monthly meetings of the Christian Education Committee and the Northwood church staff and communicate any past and future activities, fundraising or budgeting needs, goals and objectives. Meet regularly with the Pastor as supervisor.
  11. Attend Sunday morning worship regularly at Northwood. Assist in worship as assigned by the Pastor.

Terms of Employment: This is a part-time position of 12 hours per week with a starting salary of $800/month to begin as soon as possible. Please see Northwood Personnel Handbook for other benefits and stipulations of employment with a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Evaluations:Performance evaluations by the Pastor as Head of Staff, a member of the Christian Education Committee and Administration & Personnel Committee will be conducted annually. Initial performance review will be made after a 90-day probationary period. Administration Committee will review compensation annually.
