Job Description
Introduction to Position:
The Director of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation reports directly to the Superintendent and works closely with all members of the administration in coordinating, implementing, and assessing an up-to-date, dynamic curriculum which meets the varied needs of the diverse student body. Other responsibilities include coordination of staff development activities that assist faculty in the successful implementation of the curriculum. The Director of Teaching, Learning and Innovation assists teaching teams in identifying key standards/outcomes at each grade level for each discipline and developing criteria-based assessments that align with these outcomes. The person in this position also contributes to the identification and alignment of supplemental instructional resources for faculty and staff.

●Ensuring teaching, learning and curriculum development are of the highest standard;
●Providing and supporting appropriate professional development plans for high quality teaching and curriculum development;
●Investigating new, research-based approaches to effective learning and ensuring the AISD school community is actively engaged with these approaches;
●Planning an educational vision with the greater AISD community;
●Continuing a teacher learning culture at AISD which strives to be innovative.
Responsibilities:
Curriculum
●Lead and support administrators and faculty to ensure that a challenging, developmentally, and culturally appropriate curriculum is created, documented, implemented and regularly reviewed.
●Stay current with research in teaching, learning, and curriculum; facilitate and support administrators and faculty efforts to do the same.
●Work closely with the Instructional Technology Integrationist to help develop methodologies for integrating the use of technology into teaching and learning.
●Coordinate the adoption, budgeting, and evaluation of instructional materials and instructional software in cooperation with the Instructional Technology Integrationist.
●Actively support principals and their collaborative work with department chairs, grade level leaders, and teachers.
Assessment and Data Use
●Lead initiatives to gather, analyze, share and use data to improve teaching and student learning.
●Serve as supervisor and support the NEASC School Improvement Plan.
Professional Development
●Plan and implement professional development opportunities to improve teaching, learning, and innovation.
●Assist faculty in pursuing professional learning opportunities.
●Organize and support AISD professional development policies and practices.
●Assist principals and the superintendent to provide an orientation and support system for newly hired teachers.
●Prepare and implement a yearly plan of professional development for teachers, counselors, and teacher assistants.
●Support initiatives of strategic planning and improvement, accreditation, and culture building.
Required Position-Specific Qualifications:
●Three or more years of recent experience as a “Director of Teaching and Learning” (or in a similar role) at a school with a well-defined process of continuous improvement (curriculum renewal, assessment, PLC, etc.)
●Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, teachers. students and other community members
●Familiarity with different types of formative and growth-oriented assessments that are utilized to inform instruction
●Ability to effectively communicate ideas to teachers and administrators
●Experience with modeling instructional strategies for staff
●A passion for improving teaching and student learning
●An advanced degree in curriculum & assessment, leadership or relevant field
Preferred School-Wide Qualifications
●Familiarity with recent North American teaching materials and methodologies
●Experience with data-driven assessment tools that facilitate differentiated instruction
●Evidence of recent professional development activities
●Experience working in an internationally and linguistically diverse school setting
●Effective oral and written communication within a school community
●Ability to integrate instructional technology into the curriculum
●Familiarity and experience with PYP and IB DP programs
