Director of Library Services

Washington & Jefferson College, a small private liberal arts institution located near Pittsburgh, Pa., is seeking applications for a Director of Library Services. This position is responsible for planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating library operations, and overseeing collection development. Through campus collaborations, the Director of Library Services will bring life to the College’s vision for an Information Commons.

The ideal candidate will be an energetic and imaginative professional who understands emerging library issues, has a commitment to responsive and innovative service and outreach, and can optimize resources. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director will possess an in-depth understanding of current technological trends and assist the campus in continuing to strike a balance between the print and digital library worlds. A master’s degree in Library Science and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program is required. An additional advanced degree in an appropriate field is preferred. The ideal candidate will have substantial professional experience, including at least five years in an academic library setting, preferably a liberal arts institution; experience in an administrative leadership position, either as a library director or department head; familiarity with the major issues facing libraries in higher education; excellent collaboration and communication skills; experience in integrating technology with traditional library resources and services; and experience in developing external funding.
