You may accept the reduced schedule or if you opt to retain your <full-time> status, you will be laid off. Article 48 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the university and SEIU-OPEU provides the following procedure for an employee who has been notified of impending layoff:

1) You will be transferred into a vacant, <CHOOSE Part-time, half-time or full-time> < INSERT Position Name or Classification >position.

2) If there are no vacant, <CHOOSE Part-time, half-time or full-time> < INSERT Position Name or Classification > positions available, you will be transferred to another vacant <CHOOSE Part-time or full-time> position in salary range <INSERT Salary Range> for which you can demonstrate the necessary qualifications. There are no other classifications in this range.

3) If no vacant, <CHOOSE Part-time, half-time or full-time> positions in salary range <INSERT Salary Range> are available, you will displace another employee at the University of Oregon with the lowest seniority in the <CHOOSE Part-time, half-time or full-time> < INSERT Position Name or Classification > classification. Currently your seniority computation is <INSERT Seniority Computation>. You may also elect to be placed in a vacant position as outlined in step 5 below.

4) If no positions are available in the <CHOOSE Part-time, half-time or full-time> < INSERT Position Name or Classification > classification, you will displace another employee at the University of Oregon with the lowest seniority in a <CHOOSE Part-time, half-time or full-time> position in any classification with a salary range in which you previously held regular status. You may also elect to be placed in a vacant position as outlined in step 5 below.

5) If no positions are available as outlined in step 4 above, you will demote to a vacant part-time position in a lower salary range for which you can demonstrate the necessary qualifications. If you demote, you will retain recall rights to a <CHOOSE Part-time, half-time or full-time> < INSERT Position Name or Classification > position at the University of Oregon.

6) If no vacant positions are available in a lower salary range, you will demote and displace the lowest seniority, <CHOOSE Part-time, half-time or full-time> position in any classification below salary range <INSERT Salary Range> for which you can demonstrate the necessary qualifications. If you demote, you will retain recall rights to a <CHOOSE Part-time, half-time or full-time> < INSERT Position Name or Classification > at the University of Oregon.

7) If no positions are available as outlined above, you will be laid off. You also may elect to be laid off in lieu of a placement decision made in accordance with the procedure outlined above. If you elect to be laid off, you must notify ______, Employee and Labor Relations Specialist, of your placement decision within five days of receiving this letter. If you are laid off, you will be placed on a recall list for a <CHOOSE Part-time, half-time or full-time> < INSERT Position Name or Classification > position for the University of Oregon.

According to Article 48, to qualify for placement as outlined in 1 through 6 you must meet the minimum qualifications for the position classification and must be capable of performing the special requirements of the position within a reasonable period. A reasonable period is defined as approximately two weeks.

Please contact ______within five days of receiving this letter to discuss the layoff process and your qualifications. S/he will assist you with the layoff process. In addition, she will need a completed UO application form from you. This form can be completed on the UO Jobs website at Please contact ______at 541-346-29__. As specified in Article 48, Section 3 (A), if s/he does not hear from you within this time period, I will assume that you have opted to be laid off.
