DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION/TRAINING AND rESEARCH

For 37 years, Asian Community Mental Health Services (ACMHS) has been pioneering approaches to mental health services for Asians and Pacific Americans who face cultural, economic and/or linguistic barriers to care. Our mission is to provide and advocate for multicultural, multilingual family services that empower the most vulnerable members of our community to lead healthy, productive, and contributing lives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Supervision & Client Care
· Coordinates and manages the internship program including training and also acting as the liaison with the schools to ensure expectations in the contract are met
· Ensures the competency and evidence based clinical practices for the best treatment practices and quality client care
· Manages and coordinates with clinical supervisors to monitor the clinical work and overall progress of license eligible, licensed track, and intern clinicians
· Provides direct clinical supervision and mentoring to license eligible, licensed track, and intern clinicians in accordance with the guidelines from Board of Behavioral Science and/or Board of Psychology
· Coordinates with Program Managers and QA Department to ensure that all staff and their clinical work are in compliance with legal, ethical and program contract requirements and QA standards
· Provides staff training and support in handling client crisis and participates in rotation of the Supervisor of the Day duties
· Ensures the highest legal, ethical and professional standards of client care and supervision
· Conducts weekly supervision of clinical supervisors
· Consults with clinical supervisors on employee development and discipline issues
Staff Development & Training
· Promotes a strong team environment where staff thrive, learn, grow, and produce quality outcomes
· Maintains library of best practices for agency
· Oversees professional training and development of all staff
· Creates training curriculum/schedule for license eligible, licensed track, and interns for the continuation of education and professional growth
· Identifies both internal and external training resources which include but not limit to speakers, series, provider training series, events, and archived resources.
· Coordinates the development of training curriculum and funding strategies for training, research and education
· Coordinates and facilitates speakers, case conferences, and QA workshops,
Research
· Provides overall direction and development of research and grants for empirical understanding of API clients receiving services at ACMHS, improvement of clinical services, and suggestion and advice for program evaluation and planning
· Coordinates and implements internal and external sources including data management and basic, applied research
· Sets up the research arm for ACMHS
· Examples include:
· Develops a large scale data tracking system for research studies
· Identifies constituents and coordinates the execution of data driven large-scale studies
· Gathers and organizes client registry for needs assessment and funding purposes
Management
· Facilitates recruitment of new staff and trainees
· Develops annual operating budget for areas of responsibility, in collaboration with the Executive Director and manages approved budget
· Assists the Executive Director in the execution of education, training and research study-related agreements as well as other tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Possession of a valid California Board of Psychology or Board of Behavioral Science license as a Ph.D. or Psy.D. or LCSW or LMFT, two years post licensure;
2. Minimum three-year experience in the areas of program administration and management, preferably in the areas of program development, staff training and clinical supervision, evaluation and research,
3. Minimum five years clinical experience working with Asian clients and knowledge of clinical issues with this population,
4. Minimum of three-year experience in fund development and writing grants that were funded
5. Bilingual/bicultural in an Asian language such as Chinese, Vietnamese, Khmer, Japanese, Korean, Mien, or Tagalog preferred;
6. Experience in supervisory responsibilities with a culturally diverse staff;
7. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
8. Ability to work independently and to exercise professional discretion and judgment;
9. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a leader, a team member, maintain professional working relationship with other co-workers, clients, family members, community members, and providers;
10. Embrace welcoming, strength-based, and wellness/recovery principles of working with developmentally disabled, the mentally ill, and clients with alcohol and other drug disorders;
11. Valid California Driver’s license, auto insurance with bodily injury liability limit of at least $100,000/300,000 and access to use of an automobile; and
12. Support and implement the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Asian Community Mental Health Services.
