Job Description

The First Congregational Church of Bethel (FCCB) is recruiting for a new full time staff position, the Associate Minister of Youth. This position will provide primary leadership for the Youth Ministries at FCCB. This includes leadership of the Senior High Youth Group and Middle School Youth Group programs including, but not limited to, Youth Christian Education Programs, Confirmation Class, Youth Outreach, Annual Mission Trip, integration of youth into worship services, and reaching out to youth in the Bethel community to expose them to Christ’s message through active involvement with FCCB.

The Associate Minister of Youth will:

  • Design, implement and coordinate an innovative, challenging, and comprehensive program of Christian education for Middle School and Senior High Youth, so that our young adults are inspired and motivated to have a relationship with Christ, which is reflected in their lives.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Christian Education to develop church school curriculum and provide support and training to the teaching staff and lay volunteers
  • Work with the Board of Christian Education to plan and lead the annual Vacation Bible School.
  • Participate in special youth events (e.g., Pancake breakfast, Christmas Pageant, Advent Wreath, Spaghetti Dinner, etc.).
  • Expand youth programs to include special inter-faith events that include youth from the wider Bethel community
  • Active involvement with Silver Lake Conference Center by serving as a counselor and promoting our youths’ involvement with the conference programs.
  • Lead morning and evening Sunday Worship (preparation and preaching) as needed
  • Officiate at Weddings, Funerals, Baptism, and Communion (when the Senior Pastor is not available).

The Associate Minister of Youth will be a member of the Ministry Team and report to the Pastor.

Qualifications

  • Must enjoy new challenges, be a program leader, and have the ability to build excitement and interest in the youth program
  • Experience working with children and/or youth in a Christian setting.
  • Strong administrative and management skills (ability to develop and communicate a youth program vision for FCCB)
  • Able to build strong relationships (must work closely with the Senior Pastor and the Boards of Christian Education and be able to develop relationships with other youth-based organizations in the Bethel community)
  • Strong communication skills with both children and adults with an emphasis on communicating Christian faith
  • Able to provide coverage for Worship Service (and serve Communion) when Senior Pastor is not available in accordance with United Church of Christ requirements
