Position Profile

This position is responsible for the overall administrative management and resident care for the Nursing Home. As the senior manager on site, you are accountable for the operations of the nursing home including the organization, development, and management of all resident programs and services, cost management, human resources, and safety of residents and employees. The focus is on managing the operation with the care and compassion embodied by the values held by the MacLeod Group Health Services Ltd.

This position includes the following:

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the delivery of health care services within a nursing home facility.
  • Working with a multi-disciplinary team of managers, direct staff in quality and caring support of residents by ensuring quality nursing care is provided and appropriate administrative procedures are followed.
  • Develop evaluation systems to monitor the quality of health care given to residents
  • Manage and monitor budgets for services, equipment and supplies
  • Recruit and supervise health care supervisors and professionals as well as interview, hire and oversee training for staff
  • Conduct performance management and yearly performance appraisals for staff.
  • Direct and advise staff engaged in providing records management, security, finance, purchasing, human resources or other administrative services
  • Represent the organization at meetings with government officials, the public, and to engage with the community for mutually beneficial events.
  • Direct and control corporate governance and regulatory compliance procedures within establishment

Director of Facility and Resident Care

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with minimum of five years management experience is required.
  • A bachelor's degree or certification in business administration or a related administrative services field is considered an asset.
  • Recent experience leading a staff of multi-discipline managers in Long term Care / Nursing Home type of healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Past experience managing budgets and productivity goals; comfortable establishing a set of controls to minimize expenses while maintaining a supply of resources; understanding the accountability of financial stewardship in both operational and capital acquisition processes is essential.
  • The ability to promote organizational integrity by exhibiting ethical behaviour; maintaining confidentiality of staff, residents and the organization; facilitating a patient centered approach is required.
  • Proven experience in building and maintaining sustainable relationships with staff, management, volunteers, community members, residents and families is required.
  • Ability to work irregular hours including evenings / weekends
  • Strong planning and organizational skills plus effective time management practices are keys to successful performance in this role.
  • Proven problem-solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to handle confidentiality and sensitive issues with tact and discretion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to write clear, concise correspondence.
  • Computer literacy using MS Office Suite of applications is essential.
  • Valid Province of Nova Scotia Driver’s License
  • Travel within Nova Scotia may be required.
