Directions from Malaga Airport to Orgiva Las Alpujarras.
Step 1 Upon leaving Malaga airport follow the direction for the coast looking for signs E15/A7 heading for Malaga,
TIP don’t go into Malaga stay on the E15 / A7.
Step 2 Once you are on the E15 /A7 you need to follow the Autovia del Mediterraneo and continue until this road becomes the N340 heading towards Velez Malaga & Nerja.
TIP stay on the N340 road don’t turn off don’t come off for Nerja.
Step 3 When you approach the junction for Nerja it will indicate the end of the Autovia, this is where the old road is still in use and then it should be sign posted Motril/Almeria, this route needs to be followed.
TIP with the new road systems being introduced this is constantly changing; basic tip is to keep the sea on your right and keep heading for Motril, Salobrena, or Almeria.
Step 4 When you have passed Nerja you should pick up signs for Almunecar
TIP stay on the N340 do not turn off into Almunecar.
Step 5 Eventually you will approach the area called Salobrena, this is very distinctive with the castle on the hill and the white houses surrounding it and this will be on your right hand side as you approach the town.
TIP the travel time from the airport to Salobrena without heavy traffic is approx 1hr 40mins.
Step 5 Just after passing Salobrena you will see signs for Granada sign posted the N323, you must come off at this junction and follow the 3rd exit towards Granada.
TIP stay on the L/H side of the roundabout and note the give way markings on the road.
Step 6 Carry on up the N323 winding your way through the gorge following the dry river bed, eventually you will pass a sign for Velez de Benaudalla, carry on past this and take the next turning on the right sign posted the A346 Cadiar & Las Alpujarras.
TIP you will see on the right a stone arched bridge with a Taverna displaying a large Coca Cola sign and see the damn wall of the reservoir.
Step 7 After crossing the stone bridge the road bears to the left and winds along the reservoir, follow this for approx 12 to 15 km until you eventually drop down and enter a small tunnel, immediately after exiting turn left over another stone bridge sign posted Orgiva.
TIP ensure you observe the signs for the bridge traffic priority.
Step 8 Wind your way up into the village, you will see a power station on the right, carry on until you enter the town and come to a sharp bend to the left with shops either side you will see two sets of traffic lights, SLOW DOWN, pass through the first then at the second turn sharp left down a narrow lane under a tree which is on your right, you will see the house directly on your right hand side on the corner of the lane. The house has a number 2 next to the arch entrance.
TIP if you pass this turn off and you can see the office of Homes Espana on your left and the two spires of the church in front of you, then you have gone too far, turn around and repeat the steps.
