JOB DESCRIPTION

1.  JOB TITLE: Electrician

2. ORGANISATION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Department: Estates

Reports to: Electrical/Mechanical Engineer

Liaises with: Maintenance Co-ordinator

3. MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

To undertake the effective and efficient operation of the organisation’s Electrical and Mechanical services carrying out planned, preventative and reactive electrical project, servicing and maintenance works. To maintain service records/maintenance schedules as required.

4.  PRIMARY TASKS:

1.  Carry out the day to day electrical maintenance as highlighted by other departments and through regular checks to a high quality standard and ensuring compliance with industry standards and codes

2.  To proactively contribute to the planning of the ongoing electrical works, and ensure they are carried out to a high quality standard and ensuring compliance with industry standards and codes

3.  Monitor the performance and safety of subcontractors and suppliers involved in the supply of goods and services

4.  Carrying out Risk Assessments for all tasks undertaken

5.  Undertake energy monitoring and promote energy efficiency across all utilities. Support the Go Green Group in promoting energy saving through staff and students.

6.  Monitor the use of fire alarms, emergency lights, intruder alarms, aid call alarms, automatic doors and access systems with a view to advising service contractors

7.  To be familiar with I.T. and telephone systems and liaise with appropriate departments regarding new installations

8.  Carry out new electrical installation works as part of refurbishment projects.

9.  Work with and offer support to electrical apprentices as required.

10.  Willing to travel between all our sites within a 2 hour radius

11.  May on occasion be required to cover ‘on call’ over evenings, weekends and bank holidays

12.  Advise the Maintenance Co-ordinator, Head of Building & Site Services and Director of Estates, Facilities & Sustainability on electrical issues

13.  Undertaking statutory organisational training, ensuring qualifications and are up to date and continuing professional development is undertaken, and relevant legislation is complied with.

14.  Assist with other duties when required by Maintenance Co-ordinator, Head of Building and Site Services or Director of Estates, facilities & Sustainability. Supporting the whole department, Caretakers, Gardens and Maintenance.

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
Qualifications:
City and Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical installations.
City and Guilds 2391 inspection and testing
CITB – AM2
BS7671 wiring regs, 17th Edition / First Aid
Working at Height
Asbestos awareness
PASMA & IPAF
Manual Handling
Mechanical qualification
IT Literate
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in domestic and commercial installations / 10 years’ experience in domestic and commercial installations
Knowledge of access control systems, intruder alarms, call aid and fire alarms
Skills & Attributes:
