Directions for installing Venture Sim.
INSTALLING THE FILES:
1. If you have access to the Entrepreneurial Finance web site, log onto the Internet, and go to the site. The site URL is (If you do not have access to the Entrepreneurial Finance web site, you may obtain separate access to the Venture.SIM™ web site.)
2.Select “Resources” to enter the web site.
3. As appropriate, go to the Student and Individual Resources or Instructor Resources section and select the Venture.SIM™ link.
4. Click on the "Download Venture.SIM™" button and make a note of the key. You will need the key to unlock the software after you finish the installation.
5.Click on "Download" again and begin the download process. (In the event the software is temporarily not available by download, follow the instructions for requesting a copy of the software via e-mail.
6.The downloaded file is a self-extracting compressed file and should be saved to your “Desktop.” (The file name should default as “venturesim6-instructor.exe” or “venturesim6-student.exe depending on which version you have a license for).
7. Locate the file that you downloaded and double-click on it to start the extraction process. You will see a dialog like this:
You can specify any directory for the files, but the default location of C:\VSIM60 is recommended. Click on “Unzip” and the files should extract to this directory.
8. Navigate to the folder where you extracted the files. There should be a file named “vsim_setup-instructor.xls” or “vsim_setup-student.xls”. There should also be two subdirectories present: “\VSimFiles” and “VSimTutorial.” The “\VSimFiles” subdirectory should contain 3 files: “vsim.jpg,” “vsim.xla,” and “xstats.xlt.” The “\VSimTutorial” subdirectory should have only 1 files: “VSim Tutorial Version 9.xls.”
9.Now, you must integrate Venture.SIM™ into your Excel program. Begin this process by navigating back to the folder where you extracted the Venture.SIM™ files, where “vsim_setup.xls” is located. Double click on this file to automatically invoke Excel and install the addin. The installed version of Excel on your particular machine should fire up, and the files should be installed to the proper location depending on the version of Excel and the underlying OS. In addition, the installation routine will create a shortcut to the tutorial file and a shortcut to the companion web site on your desktop. If all goes right, you will get a message box such as this:
When you press OK, the setup worksheet will automatically close and you are ready to go.
9. If the installation routine does not work, you can install Venture.SIM™ manually. Open Excel. Under the “Tools” menu in the main menu bar, select the item “Add-ins.”
10. Once under “Add-Ins,” select the “Browse button.”
11. Next, select the directory where you installed Venture.SIM™.
12. A new item will be added to your list of Excel Add-Ins: “Venture Sim 6”. Make sure the box next to “Venture Sim 6” in the list of Add-Ins is checked.
