Description
During this course students will have the opportunity to improve their mental, emotional, social, and physical health through daily participation in a variety of recreational coed sports. Upon completion of the course students will have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to participate in a variety of recreational sports to help maintain their health and fitness throughout their lifetime.
Course Standards
National Standards for Physical Education
Physical activity is critical to the development and maintenance of good health. The goal of physical education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.
A physically educated person:
Standard 1:Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
Standard 2:Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.
Standard 3:Participates regularly in physical activity.
Standard 4:Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
Standard 5:Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.
Standard 6:Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.
Beginning of class procedures
· Students must be in the health hallway by the time the tardy bell rings, late students will be sent to get a tardy slip.
· Students will have 5 minutes to change clothing and store belongings in locker room and will then meet in the locker room hallway.
· During this time the classroom teacher will be stationed in the locker room hallway to address any questions or needs students may have.
· 5 minutes after the tardy bell your teacher will lock the locker room doors and classes will report to their designated area with their teacher.
During Class
· Students must be supervised by the assigned teacher at all times.
· Any student that leaves the assigned area without permission will receive disciplinary actions for skipping class.
· Locker rooms will remain locked during class, if a student must use the restroom they will be sent to the concession area.
· If a student is summoned to the office they will go as they are and return at the end of class to get belongings unless another faculty member can escort them to the locker room to get belongings.
End of class procedures
· Students will remain in the gym until all equipment is collected and stored. At this time the teacher will exit the gym with students to open locker rooms. Students will have 5-7 minutes to change clothing and collect belongings and report back to the locker room hallway where they will remain until the bell rings to dismiss class.
· During this time the classroom teacher will be stationed in the locker room hallway to address any questions or needs students may have.
· All students will exit the Physical education area using the health classroom hallway, no one will be permitted to exit through the gym or track
Grading
· Daily grade for effort and participation in fitness activities, motor skill development activities and games. (10pts)
· Daily grade for being prepared with appropriate clothing and shoes. (5pts)
· Written test/quiz on rules skills, and strategy

1. Use all equipment appropriately as it is intended to be used. If you are not sure how to use equipment ask your teacher to demonstrate proper technique to prevent possible injury to yourself or other students and possible damage to equipment.

Materials
· Rubber sole laced gym shoes
· Athletic apparel compliant to school dress code(shorts, pants, shirts)
After an Absence
· It is the students’ responsibility to complete the fitness assignment and absence log if the absence was excused. Work to be completed based on the number of days absent. All absences will be recorded as a zero until absence log is submitted.
· All unexcused absences will be recorded as a zero for daily grades.
Discipline:
1st offense – warning/student teacher conference/student may be removed from activity
2nd offense – student removed from activity/contact parents and after school teacher detention
3rd offense – student removed from activity for the remainder of the class and the following
class /discipline referral
Locker Information:
Students may be assigned a locker with the rental of a CCHS lock (cost $5) to use during their Physical Education Course. At the end of the school year the locks may be returned if they are in good working condition for a refund. Each student is responsible for making sure that their belongings are securely locked in their locker during class to prevent possible theft. If your locker or lock is not working properly it is your responsibility to notify your teacher so another locker or lock can be assigned. CCHS is not responsible for any personal items lost or stolen.
General Class Outline
Unit activities:
Each unit will start with a pre test to assess student knowledge of basic rules and strategies. Instruction covering basic rules and strategies will vary depending on pretest results.
Once teams are assigned games will be played as if you were in a recreational coed league. For some units teams will have assigned game days and practice days which will allow individuals to improve various motor skills need to be successful for the given sport. For most units league play will consist of playing each team twice and then a double elimination tournament to end the unit.
A final written assessment will be given at the end of each unit.
