Directions for ACT and COMPASS Preparation

The following directions are for accessing an online program that Scott County HighSchool has purchased from TCA (Triumph College Admissions). The program, which includes actual ACT tests, is free for all juniors and seniors to use. Once you take a test, the program will score and analyze the results, review your weakest skills based on missed questions, provide additional practice quizzes on the skills, and then allow you to retake the tests!

To Access the Website

  1. Go to
  2. On left side of screen, click on “Schools”; select “Secondary Schools”; select “Scott County High School”
  3. Under “School Links” on right side you will see “Links” and “Forms and Downloads”(“Links” will take you to the TCA website where most of your work will occur. “Forms and Downloads” will contain Tests 1,2,and 3 in PDF form.)
  4. Click on “Links”, then under “Student Links”, click on “College Readiness”
  5. It will take you to TCA’s Log On page. Type in your student ID number (from Infinite Campus) for both your username and your password. Click “Log On”.
  6. You will arrive at TCA’s homepage. Below the “Study Guide Home” on far left, click on “Study Guide for ACT”
  7. This page has 5 steps listed across the top of the page.

STEP 1 – ACT Overview

This is an overview and tips for taking the ACT test (use the arrow on the right of screen to advance); this is especially important to go through if you have not taken the ACT before.

STEP 2 – Take a Test

Ignore this step and follow the instructions below to access a practice test on our website.

  1. Go to
  2. On left side of screen, click on “Schools”; select “Secondary Schools”; select “Scott County High School”
  3. Under “School Links” on right side, click on “Forms and Downloads”
  4. In the middle section under “ACT Prep”, you will see the first 3 ACT Tests. These are PDF files.
  5. Click on Test 1 2012-2013 Form 1267C.
  6. You will scroll through the review booklet to page 14 to begin the English Test. The other sections are math on p. 26, reading on p. 34, and science on p. 42.
  7. You will take the test from the computer (or a printed out copy) and write your answers on a piece of paper to be recorded afterwards on the online TCA answer sheet for scoring.

STEP 3 – Score and Analyze

Taking Test 1

After accessing the above test and putting your answers on paper, click on Step 3. Then click on the blue boxlabeled “Test 1 2012-2013 Form 1267C”. Find the tabs at the top and skip over the Essay tab to Section 1. Click on it and a blank answer sheet will appear. You will enter your answers into the online answer sheet so the program can score your exam and provide individualized feedback. At the end of the section, click on “Score this Section”. To record the rest of your test answers, click on Sections 2, 3, and 4 and score each as you finish.

STEP 4 – Review Your Skills

To review your weakest set of skills for each test you take:

  1. Click on the box that says “Click here to review your critical skills”
  2. Click on the appropriate test
  3. The program will provide a list of the skills you need to work on based on your test results

You can also access a more detailed report of your results by clicking on “My Status for ACT” found under Step 3). The summary report will allow you access a summary of your questions missed and you can select skills to review for sections with high number of wrong answers. The detailed report will show you a question-by-question analysis of your results.

By clicking on the skills through either the “Review your Critical Skills”, “Summary Report”, or “Detailed Report”, you will be able to review the skills then at the end of the review take some short quizzes for additional practice.

STEP 5 – Rework Your Test

To retake the exam after reviewing the skills and taking quizzes, go to Step 5 and click on the appropriate test. Results will appear in the “My Status for ACT”, just below the original test results.
