Due to the launch of Glion's new online MBA in International Hospitality Management, we are currently recruiting for highly motivated part-time, online lecturers for this program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The role of an online lecturer (faculty) is to impart and disseminate information and skills to students so that they gain and develop life long skills in an environment that is conducive to learning and development, within an atmosphere of support and encouragement.
Faculty are assigned a course, which is taught using the Blackboard platform, and are responsible for interacting with students within this platform. Discussion Boards for classrooms are open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Postings can be made at any time but Faculty are expected to be in the virtual classroom 3-4 days per week and to hold a minimum of two (2) virtual office hours per week. Although postings to the classroom may be done at any time of day, they must be completed in a timely manner in accordance with the Faculty Handbook or other criteria established by Glion. Lecturers are required to verify the accuracy of student postings and submissions and to provide feedback and grades to students through Blackboard.
Academic Duties:
Teaching:
- To teach courses according to the academic program within the lecturer's field of expertise;
- To be available for and give academic counseling to students.
Academic Administration and Supervision:
- To prepare and mark assessments, examinations, assignments, course work and course projects
- To maintain up-to-date records of grades, student attendance in the required form
- To support and follow Institutional policies
- To comply with Institutional academic standards and procedures
- To take part in academic advising of allotted students
- To be available as per schedule for tutorial duties
Communications:
- Attend faculty meetings and training as required
- Participate in course review and evaluation activities
- Participate in faculty appraisal activities
- Participate in appropriate staff development or scholarly activities or research as directed
Non-Academic:
- To enforce GIHE student rules and regulations
- To be seen as a role model to students academically and professionally
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May perform other duties and responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
May attend faculty meetings and training as required by Line Manager

Faculty members are required to have an adequate computer to handle an electronic learning platform, keyboard, pointing device, and computer monitor. All other tools are knowledge-based or training-based through Glion. The Faculty Member must be able to use Microsoft Office products (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint), zip software, and Adobe Acrobat and must have reliable Internet access as well as alternate access in cases where primary access becomes unavailable.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of a Master's degree in Hospitality, Tourism, Event, Sport, and Entertainment Management, Business, or in a related discipline required
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience at the Managerial level in an appropriate Service Industry
- Teaching experience at degree level but prefer Master level
- PhD if no appropriate work experience is essential
- International experience in teaching or work arena
- On-line teaching experience would be an advantage
TRAINING:
All new Faculty Members receive specific training from Glion in the techniques, teaching, use of an electronic learning platform, specifics of the policies, procedures and degree programs of the School in which they are going to teach, socialization into the Glion culture, assessment of academic integrity of student work (including use of and research supervision of theses and dissertations.
LICENSURE and/or CERTIFICATION
Faculty Members must be appropriately credentialed, possess an earned degree from an accredited institution or recognized by a country's ministry of education in the discipline being taught. Faculty Members are also expected to maintain currency with research by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations. If participating in research, the Faculty Member may publish and acknowledge Glion.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed on an online, virtual environment, but may involve exposure to moderate noise levels. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for six to eight hours daily and includes physical demands associated with a traditional office setting , e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions as necessary.
Physical requirements of this position include the following:
Carrying; Near Vision; Hearing; Handling; Talking;
Lifting up to 40 lbs; Balancing; Field of Vision; Fingering; Couching; Mid-Range Vision.
The primary physical demands are handling a mouse, which requires reaching and handling, using a keyboard, which requires fingering, near vision (20 inches or less), and mid-range vision (more than 20 inches in distance) to focus on the computer monitor, or hard copy as is necessary. Depth perception (the judging of distances and spatial relationships) and visual accommodation (used to do near point work at varying distances) are not necessary to perform the work of the Faculty Member.
