17th international Holstentor-Boules-Tournament in Brügmanngarten on the 16th an 17th of August in Lübeck-Travemünde
Now already for the 17th time in a row the Holstentor-Tournament will take place in Lübeck-Travemünde. Last year we could welcome almost 1500 athletes and in the meantime it became the biggest boules-tournament of Germany.
Also in this year players from all over Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, France and even Madagascar and Tunisia have confirmed their participation, including many top athletes, who participated in world championships. We are expecting teams from our partner city La Rochelle again as well.
The tournament will take place in and around the Brügmanngarten, in front of the Kurmuschel and on the path along the sea front with a view to the bay of Lübeck. This setting is one of the most impressive settings in the pétanque-scene like the participants of the 29th German Pétanque-Championship 2005 and the Northsea-Cup in June 2007 at the same place noticed enthralled.
On Saturday a hot air balloon will start at 6 p.m. The balloon ride will be raffled among the players, who will be dropped out of the tournament till then.
The matches will go on until late at night and certainly there will be a large number of spectators who will witness the fascinating decisions from the tribune.
On Saturday Doublettes (teams with two players) will be played. The tournament will be licence-free, meaning everyone can join in, with pleasure also leisure teams. On Sunday Triplettes (teams with three players) will be played. Since this will be an official German ranking tournament, the athletes have to be holder of a valid licence.
Due to the constantly increasing number of participants we had to limit both tournaments, on Saturday to 400 teams and on Sunday to 256 teams. Therefore a previous registration by e-mail is compulsory.
The tournament will be opened by the mayor of Lübeck, Bernd Saxe, and others. On both days the tournament will commence at 9:30 a.m.
Thanks to the assistance of reputable companies we can provide our guests a special atmosphere concerning the catering and the awards ceremony (and we don’t just mean the prices for the athletes). These efforts are rewarded with an annually increasing number of participants. In the meantime it is the biggest boules-tournament of Germany.
