Dear (NAME),

Did you know that 1 in 4 new HIV infections are among youths 13-24? Despite encouraging advances in HIV/AIDS research, the Indiana Department of Public Health reported some startling new facts about new HIV cases right in our own backyard: the rate of HIV infection is increasing. By the end of December 2012, a total of 10,746 persons were living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in the state of Indiana, up from 10,279 persons by the end of 2011. This is why I have recently taken on a challenge that is not only rewarding to me personally, but will also make a difference to hundreds of friends, neighbors and family members affected by or living with HIV/AIDS in our region.

I am a Team Captain/Walker/Runner for this year’s Bloomington AIDS Walk. My team’s name is (TEAM NAME), and we will be walking on Friday, April 10 to raise money for Positive Link. Positive Link is the preeminent provider of comprehensive prevention and holistic social services for those struggling with HIV and AIDS in south central Indiana. They supply everything from food, housing and counseling to legal aid, education, prevention, and awareness.

The news media have given the impression that HIV/AIDS is no longer a serious threat. New drugs are helping some people live longer, but the harsh reality is that there is still no cure, and HIV infection rates continue to climb.

How can you help? This year, my/my team’s goal is to raise $ (AMOUNT). We can make that goal a reality. You can make a donation to our/my fundraising page: (add fundraising page link) by using your credit card. All donations are 100% tax deductible and go to Positive Link to help them fight this devastating epidemic. You can also make a donation with a check made out to “Community AIDS Action Group” and send it to333 East Miller Drive, Bloomington, IN 47401.

The world has lost so many incredible people to this disease. Let’s act now before we lose another person we love. You can make a difference. Thank you so much for your time.

Sincerely,

(YOUR NAME)
