Our trip to the Seattle Art Museum focuses on African art and culture. Students will also be learning how to use materials in new and interesting ways to create new items. We often see this in other cultures, like Kenya, when everyday objects are repurposed for art. There are two items on the table in the hallway that are from Kenya. Both objects are made from repurposed or recycled materials. There are also other art objects on this table on loan from the Seattle Art Museum.

Junior Olympics starts at 8:45 sharp with our costume prep. Students can come in the dress of the country, as their animal that they researched, or something specifically Kenyan. The opening ceremonies start at 9:30 am. If you are one of the two parents volunteering that morning, please come in early for costume help. The clothes for the later events should also be packed in their pack backs. If you didn’t sign up for the special hot dog lunch, please remember to pack a lunch.

We continue to work on our frieze of the Maasai Mara and soon we will be putting on our animals and creating a Maasai village. We are moving into our adaptation paragraph and conclusion on our report. We continue to work on geometry in math. In reading, after Memorial Day,we will take a break from our small reading groups and read Kenya A-Z together.

Have a great week!
