Purpose

The Diane Slack Memorial IW Scholarship has been established to help a graduating senior of Iroquois West High School further his/her education. Funds for this scholarship were donated through a memorial originating after Diane’s passing on August 22, 2008. Diane’s career in education spanned 30+ years at Gilman and Iroquois West High Schools in English and Art. She also instructed Kankakee Community College Adult Education classes for several years. She dedicated her life to furthering the education of others. This award is given in hopes that others will model her example and teach others in the future.

Eligibility

  • Member of the current graduating class, participating in graduation.
  • A statement of admission to a four-year college or university, a community/junior college, or a trade school.
  • Completion of a high school art class.
  • Member of the Art Club and participation in area art contests is preferred.

Application Procedure

  • Completion of the application form.
  • Transcript attached to application form.

Selection Procedure

  • The Selection Committee will meet prior to Academic Award’s Night.
  • The Committee will consist of the principle, guidance counselor, and art teacher.
  • The Committee may not select an award winner, if it feels there are no candidates that fit the parameters of the scholarship.

Award

The successful candidate shall receive an award letter at the Iroquois West High School Awards Night. Proof of the completion of the recipient’s first semester of college/career training must be presented to the president of Prospect Bank of Gilman. A family member will draft the monetary award to the recipient.
