Essential Question: What are differences between Hamilton’s and Myers’s memoires?
Activities:
- Diagramming Sentences – PPt (Subject, Verb, Articles, Modifiers)
- Bad Boy: a memoire by Walter Dean Myers; Read aloud chapters 3 & 4 pausing for clarification, comprehension, and making predictions
- In literary circles read: Chapter 2 entitled “Roots” from Bethany Hamilton’s memoire Soul Surfer; groups will use a Venn diagram to compare/contrast the similarities in style and prose and theme and ideas between the two memoires.
- As a class, we will discuss societal differences/expectations between the genders to prepare for the writing prompt
- Begin writing prompt after discussion
- Diary of Anne Frank: discuss changes in her surroundings, character, behavior, and world as it pertains to the reading through page 27
- Homework: Read through p60 by Thursday; Discussion on Thursday
