Conformance Test Software

Order Form

The following is a recommended procedure for conformance testing of devices at ODVA’s Independent Test Labs. The procedure suggests a level of preparatory work at the company site. Although the majority of the preparatory work is not a mandatory to submit device(s) to one of the laboratories, it is highly recommended as it will drastically reduce the need for iteration of the testing between your company site and the Laboratory.

STEP 1 (Optional). Purchase the Conformance Testing Software from ODVA.

It is highly recommended that the product developer purchase the Conformance Test Software and maintain a copy at the company site. The software will provide a high level of insight into the conformance testing process and should serve as an excellent tool in the later stages of the product development cycle.

STEP 2 (Optional). Attend Conformance Test Software Training.

ODVA sponsors Conformance Software Training at regular intervals.

STEP 3. Test device in-house as necessary.

In order to expedite the conformance testing process, the device should be tested by the product developer using the Conformance Test Software to minimize or eliminate non-conformance. If the ODVA Conformance Test Software is used during product development, the time for the total design process will be drastically reduced.

STEP 4. Create the input file for the Conformance Test Software.

Each device type to be tested for conformance must have an associated file that characterizes the protocol implementation of the device (options chosen). This file is easily constructed utilizing the user interface provided with the Conformance Test Software.

STEP 5. Complete the Independent Conformance Test Request Form (back of this page).

Send the completed form to ODVA. The Lab will contact you after your order is received. Note: it
is preferable that a company representative be available in person during the scheduled test period (or at the very least via phone). This person should be identified when making the appointment.

STEP 6. Device delivery for testing.

After your appointment is confirmed by the lab, bring your device along with your input file to the Conformance Testing Laboratory (or ship to the Lab address). Note: the device should be delivered with appropriate cables and open connectors so that it can be easily connected to a standard DeviceNet network.

STEP 7. Conformance Testing.

Conformance Testing Laboratory personnel will test the device.

STEP 8. Results distribution.

The results of the conformance testing will be delivered in confidence to the company contact and ODVA. Should problems arise with the test procedures, representatives of ODVA’s Conformance SIG will be contacted to troubleshoot the Test Software.

STEP 9. Results Advertisement.

ODVA will publish a listing of products that have successfully passed conformance testing at the Conformance Testing Laboratories. The listing will be included on ODVA’s World Wide Web Site < and in the DeviceNet Product Catalog.

STEP 10. Advertise your successful test completion.

After the product passes Conformance Testing, ODVA recommends that manufacturers use the following text in manufacturer’s product literature:

“This product has been tested by ODVA’s authorized Independent Test Lab and found to comply with ODVA Conformance Test Software Version _____.”

Note: Product markings indicating Conformance with ODVA testing are expressly prohibited.
