PROJECT FUNDING
During 2015-2016, PPA allocated some R1.6m to various cycling-related projects. A big focus area for PPA remains the development of cyclists. Over the past 6 years, close to R2,5m was spent on cycling development initiatives, over and above the support clubs received in respect of subsidised event entries, transport assistance and discounted membership fees.
Development Club Projects
Some 300 bicycles to the value of R490 000 were purchased for the 2015-2016 project funding year, with R2,15m being spent on purchasing bicycles from 2010 to 2015. An additional sum of R1.25m was spent on spares and maintenancein the last 6 years.
Over the last 6years PPA supported various BMX initiatives (R550000), as well as MTB trail building and maintenance(R853000). Sections of the routes used in the PPA Tiletoria Elgin Valley MTB Funride, PPA’s flagship MTB event, were built with PPA project funding allocated to the Paul Cluver Wine Estate.
Project funding spent from 2010 to 2015 came to R6,633m,excluding support towards events and excluding the R10m funding allocated to safe cycling initiatives from 2013 to 2016.

For the Project funding 2016-2017 year, PPA will, amongst others, be launching our very own PPA Mobility Project, a bicycle distribution programme. We are staying with a locally available, tried and tested rigid mountain bike, but we will be branding it at source.
PPA is proud of its significant contribution to cycling in South Africa and will continue to make a difference wherever it can.
