Visionary is a membership organisation for local independent charities that support blind and partially sighted people across the UK. These independent local charities provide practical on the ground services for local people with sight loss.

Bringing together a wealth of experience and expertise in the sector, Visionary acts as the collective voice for local organisations.

We encourage and support the development and improvement of local charities and their services for blind and partially sighted people in three main ways.

To Connect:

  • Bringing the network of local organisations together
  • Promoting joint working and the sharing and learning from best practices opportunities and challenges
  • Providing shared purchasing benefits for members using the collective scale of local organisations

To Influence:

  • Consulting Visionary members on issues that affect them and representing them on the national stage
  • Promoting our members diverse interests and lobbying for change

To Develop:

  • Offering direct support to Visionary members, providing advice, learning opportunities, guidance and funding to facilitate the development of new local organisations and services from existing local organisations

Role:Development and Innovation Coordinator

Reporting to:Development and Innovation Manager

Location:Head Office – Pocklington Hub, London

Salary: £24,990 per annum

Role Purpose:

To support theDevelopment and Innovation Manager to deliver

Visionary member services. This will involve delivering support in the

following areas:

  1. General support to the Visionary team and Visionary members
  2. Education, Employment and Volunteering support services
  3. Outcome and Impact Measurement support services
  4. Fundraising support
  5. Campaigning Coordination services

Key areas of

Responsibility:

General support to the Visionary team and Visionary members

1.1To coordinate working groups of members and external stakeholders within the Quality Standards and Service Development work stream which will include education and working age opportunities.

1.2To manage accessibility projects on software and websites that may be used in running a charity. This may include organising compatibility testing for assistive technology such as screen magnifiers and screen magnifiers on anything from database software to online fundraising platforms.

1.3To work with the Development and Innovation Manager to develop relationships across the private, public and voluntary sectors to support the work of Visionary. This may include influencing partners to support work by donating resources such as time, expertise or money or influencing them to communicate and advocate messages through their organisation or sector.

1.4To record and raise any concerns about compliance with necessary legislation, regulation, policies or procedures with your line manager including matters of safeguarding.

1.5To direct enquiries from members on issues relating to education, employment and volunteering; fundraising; campaigning and outcome and impact measurement.

1.6To represent the organisation effectively to external organisations and to participate as needed in national and local conferences and meetings.

1.7To work in line with the accounts management system whereby Visionary member organisations have a designated point of contact within Visionary. This will include travelling to member organisations across the UK; responding in a timely manner to members’ queries and liaising across Visionary to ensure the members get support from the appropriate team.

1.8To support the Development and Innovation Fund initiative by working with the Development and Innovation manger to sort through member applications in the relevant work streams and contribute to responses. In cases where members have applied for staff support, this may involve working within member organisations for a short period of time.

1.9To keep accurate and up to date records on member engagement and activities that will be fed back to through the Development and Innovation Manager, CEO and board of trustees.

1.10To work as an effective member of the Visionary Team, contributing to all aspects of development, innovation and engagement. as may reasonably be required taking account of the nature and scope of the duties of this position. The staff team is structured to enable team members to work cross functionally depending on experience and skillset even if their primary assignment is not to that area.

1.11To work cooperatively in conjunction with other Visionary staff/departments to implement the organisation’s business plan including working with staff from Thomas Pocklington Trust and other partners as appropriate, as well as attending and contributing to own team meetings.

2.Education, Employment and Volunteering support services

2.1To support Visionary member organisations in developing and delivering services which support and enable VI people into education, employment and volunteering opportunities. This may include developing resources such as ‘How to’ guides, training and workshops; researching funding opportunities; developing partnerships and working with corporate partners.

2.2To support the Development and Innovation Manager’s contributions to the UK Charities Forum work on working age opportunities.

3.Outcome and Impact Measurement support services

3.1To carry out activities in line with the sector’s ‘Seeing it My Way’ outcomes and support member organisations to operate in line with them. Collate information on the number of services operating in this way.

3.2To support the Development and Innovation Manager with the development of the Outcome and Impact Measurement work stream. This will include coordinating legacy work resulting from the partnership with NCVO Charities Evaluation Services and supporting the delivery of new proposals.

3.3To contribute to internal outcome and impact measurement including developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks and database implementation.

4.Fundraising support

4.1To research, collate and disseminate information on fundraising opportunities to Visionary members.

4.2To develop resources for members on all types fundraising including corporate, legacy, individual, community, trusts, events, major donor and statutory as well as attending and publicising training opportunities in these areas.

4.3To develop opportunities through partnerships with organisations with fundraising specialisms for the benefit of members.

5.Campaigning Coordination services

5.1To collate and deliver communications to members and the wider sight loss sector about campaigns on issues that affect people with sight loss.

5.2To monitor campaigning activities and results in context with local and national circumstances.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential:

  • A good standard of general education (minimum A levels or Level 3 equivalent)
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Knowledge of the sight loss sector including the issues that people with sight loss and the services that assist them face across the UK

Desirable

  • Degree level qualification
  • Awareness of techniques for measuring outcomes and impact
  • Knowledge of assistive technology used by people with sight loss

Experience

Essential :

  • Experience of carrying out monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience of working with local organisations or partnership work
  • Experience of project based work
  • Experience of working in one of the following areas: a) outcome and impact measurement; b) fundraising; c) education or employment; d) campaigns

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in a membership or client management setting
  • Experience of working with databases
  • Experience of working with people with sight loss (in a voluntary or paid capacity)

Skills and Attributes

Essential:

  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service

  • Ability to influence partners and network effectively
  • Be willing to work flexible hours and possibly weekends if required and agreed in advance
  • Be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Be able to travel independently across the UK to meetings

  • Be willing to undertake self-development and training requirements
