Develop ICT to promote new growth

In the context of globalization, to fulfill social needs depends on information and technology to variable degrees. Fair trade, structural reform and the ability to monitor and respond to issues of human security are constantly being streamlined and made more efficient through advances in technology. Strategic regional partnerships and bridges across the development gap are conceivable only by virtue of our previously unmatched ability to communicate.

The telecommunications and information sector is a uniquely positioned industry: apart from cross-cutting almost everything that is achieved in business, its impact is far-reaching and affects all aspects of both collective and individual development. The potential of telecommunications in addressing the social disparities that have impeded economic growth is unparalleled.

Peru is committed to facilitate development of an information infrastructure across the Asia-Pacific. Many strategies and initiatives have been developed to assist member economies in working toward the establishment of an Asia-Pacific Information Society.

APEC Digital Opportunity e-Commerce centers, FDI, among other initiatives, have provided information and communication technology related training for small and medium size businesses (SMEs) in Peru. They will contribute to foster competitiveness toward their internalization.

The internet has been a major contributing factor in the process of structural reform in Peru, reducing both the time and cost of investment and cross-border trade. IT has facilitated a number of government procedures in addition to increasing interaction between government and citizens, via the internet.

Peru considers that Asia-Pacific to discover ways in which to deliver the benefits of technology to those who have limited or no access to technology. We promote IT learning in the Peruvian education system, thru programs like “One child, one laptop”.

The twenty one century citizen has to be able to speak international languages and to use IT.

An authentic private-public sector partnership is the main resource in our effort to advance development through innovation and technology in Peru. Private companies are willing to drive technical innovations and invest in the development of our economy's infrastructure. The government create environment that is conducive.

IT is a tool for the development of the Peruvian economy.
