Role statement of purpose: / Support communications, marketing and stakeholder management activity for the Integrated and Smart travel (IST) programme implementing and delivering strategies and plans to ensure TfN meets itscore objectives.

1. / Specialist media, stakeholder management and public relations services to support delivery of the IST programme /
- Provide professional and effective media relations, communications and stakeholder management services for ISTprogramme including organising and managing media and stakeholder events when required, responding to stakeholder and media enquiries and providing appropriate responses including news releases as required.
- Address inaccurate, incomplete or unbalanced comments and media coverage to mitigate potential reputational damage.
- Develop and maintain proactive relationships with key stakeholders including media.
- Develop and maintain a relationship of trust and respect with key stakeholders.
- Implement agreed media protocols with staff and partner organisations.
- Assess risk and support on corporate reputation issues with appropriate communications input.
2. / Proactively identify opportunities to promote ISTactivities and projects, through forward planning and a creative approach /
- Maximise positive media coverage and positive feedback from stakeholder groups by seeking out opportunities to promote ISTprogramme related activities.
- Work with colleagues to support and implement positive and proactive communications and stakeholder engagement strategies to promote and enhance the ISTprogramme and its’ reputations – including handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Assist in the development and delivery of creative approaches to publicise IST’s priorities.
3. / Specialist communications/ stakeholder management advice and counsel to IST colleagues /
- Advise colleagues and spokespeople as directed/required on communications & stakeholder management issues including:
- Promotional activity
- Response to media coverage
- Appropriate communications content
- Reputational risks and challenges
- Provide appropriate briefing material/support to colleagues as required.
- Support members and colleagues during media activity and/or stakeholder events such as interviews, press conferences, exhibitions and roadshows as required.
4. / Day-to-day planning, co-ordination, and delivery of communications activity on projects involving all appropriate partners /
- Work with internal colleagues to coordinate and deliver activity across a range of communications and engagement channels (e.g. media relations, e-comms, internal communications, events, stakeholder engagement).
- Develop and maintain website content as directed.
- Promote best practice communications and engagement activity across the organisation.
- Work closely with all partners involved in the organisation and its objectives to coordinate communications activity with project activity and milestones.
5. / Ensure communications and stakeholder engagement materials are produced and delivered on time /
- Produce quality content for public-facing channels, including but not limited to:
- Press releases and Media statements
- Web copy
- Brochures, leaflets and posters
- Briefing notes
- Internal communications
- Proof read all communications materials for grammar, spelling and consistency.
6. / Record and respond to communications and stakeholder enquiries /
- Provide information in response to communications information requests, including dealing with inbound enquiries and Freedom of Information requests.
- Manage and maintain communications databases to ensure that responses are issued on time.
- Recognise and escalate urgent, important or emerging issues as appropriate.
- Maintain and update relevant records, including databases, in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
- Collate performance statistics to feed into performance analysis.
7. / Liaise withpeers in local transport authorities across the North and partner organisations nationally to feed into wider communications and stakeholder management planning /
- Coordination of multi-agency communications and stakeholder management activity.
- Build and maintain a network of contacts across local transport authority and partner organisations.
8. / Identify best practice communications and engagement activity across the ISTprogramme and externally /
- Maintain a working knowledge of best practice communications & stakeholder management activity, and use to inform and improve IST’s internal/external communications and stakeholder engagement.

E / Essential Experience:
E1 / Significant experience of working in a multi-channel communications and/or stakeholder management role
E2 / Significant experience of working with the media
E3 / Experience of producing high quality content across multiple channels with the evidenced ability to translate complex issues into appropriate formats for target audiences
E4 / Experience of devising and delivering communications and/or stakeholder management campaigns to support key organisational priorities
E5 / Knowledge of current communications and stakeholder management methods and trends, including social media
E6 / Demonstrable experience of records management and databases
E7 / Proven ability to deal with a wide cross section of stakeholders effectively, clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
E8 / Ability to work effectively with colleagues across the organisation to coordinate the provision of information in a timely and accurate manner
E9 / Experience of client management and influencing skills, including advising key senior colleagues as required on communications management
