Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post
The successful applicant will join a business school based at Hull and Scarborough delivering an attractive suite of programmes at all levels, Bachelors, MSc, MBA and Doctoral, and these provide students with an enriched learning experience and an extensive range of opportunities outside the curriculum. The programmes enable students to develop specialist subject knowledge and also to gain the professional skills needed for employment in an international environment. All students experience a professional learning environment which supports the concept of responsible and ethical behaviour. The school encourages research-led learning and teaching, particularly at Level 6 (Honours stage) and in the taught Master’s programmes. The school delivers MBA programmes in Bahrain, Oman, Hong Kong and Singapore, and also undergraduate programmes in collaboration with Hong Kong University SPACE.The past three years have seen significant development in the growth, strength and distinctiveness of the school’s research. Discipline based research is well focused with vibrant communities producing high quality academic and user relevant outputs which create a lasting impact on thought and practice, and inform other activities in the School. The business school has research centres in a wide range of subject.
It is anticipated that the successful applicant will contribute to the research work of the group which provides a forum for finance and banking research and is comprised of researchers with interests in corporate finance and investment, banking and financial intermediation, corporate governance, financial risk management, entrepreneurial finance and SMEs. The centre’s mission is to promote high calibre academic research in the field of finance and banking to foster the teaching of related subjects to a high standard. The research centre has a particular focus on applied research as many members have professional work experience as well as academic qualifications. The successful applicant will be able to evidence research leadership, a strong publications record, impact of research and have a proven track record of securing research grants.

This role will be carried out by individuals with considerable experience in teaching and research and have established a significant reputation nationally and internationally within their academic specialism.
At this level, role holders’ contribution spans scholarship, teaching, research and related administration, though the weight allocated to each of these strands will vary from role to role and from time to time for individual role holders.
The role holder will participate in the design, development and delivery of a broad range of programmes of study which may include entirely new courses.
The role holder will determine, develop and carry out relevant independent research of international status and quality that makes a significant contribution to the research strategy of the Faculty/School and University.
Main Work Activities
Research- Provide research leadership and develop performance research culture
- Engage in a personal research programme of international status and quality that makes a significant contribution to the research strategy of the Department
- Attract significant research funding or other support for primary research and to mentor colleagues to submit bids for funding
- Publish regularly in high quality peer reviewed publications of an international standard
- Successfully manage and lead research projects within the Department
- Actively seek out and develop collaborative research opportunities and networks elsewhere with the University and with other Universities
- Develop, design and deliver teaching material across a range of modules and programmes within a subject area using appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods
- Review on a regular basis course content and materials, updating when required
- Ensure that all course design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the University, Faculty and department.
- Develop and apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and material which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students
