SPECIAL NOTES!!!!

DREAMING OF SHIVON

In an April Focus Magazine article titled “Getting There: As we near the tipping point…it’s time to start singing” author Gene Miller describes an “adventure dream” that included Shivon and a suitcase of hers that turns out to contain Pete Seeger singing We Shall Overcome. The article is a wild ride from idea to idea and well worth the read. Check it out here.

Gene Miller is founder of Open Space Cultural Centre, Monday Magazine and the Gaining Ground Conferences.

“MUSIC MATTERS” SWAT APRIL 19
The GHC has been invited to participate in a SWAT on Saturday evening Apr.19 at St Matthias church hall. It's to support a very worthwhile venture to get young people singing called "Music Matters", and it's being put on by the Music For Youth Works Society. The repertoire will be GHC "standards" that we will be going over in the next two weeks, such as Teach Your Children, One Voice, some African songs, and such. We'll be asking for volunteers to sing this week at choir - please come if you can!

GHC NEWS & BUSINESS

CHOIR POTLUCKS
There will be one more potluck gathering from 6:00 to 7:30 pm:

TuesdayApril 8

These potlucks, held every season, are a tradition in the choir that allows us to get to know each other a little better.
Please bring a tasty dish to share and your own plate, cup and cutlery. An ingredients sign would be helpful for those with dietary considerations and perhaps a name label in case someone wants to get your recipe from you.
All choir members are welcome at all potlucks. Come and enjoy!

Current Singers Please Note:

There is now a web page in our site’s Current Singer’s Only section that offers the lyrics to, and links to sound files of, the three graces that we tend to sing at potlucks. It also offers a lyric and a sound file for the Birthday song we sing when the opportunity arises plus a lyric file for Hey Thank You another honouring song we sing from time to time. Check it out!

GHC/HNC LOST & FOUND

Monday: on the right hand end of the shelf in the hall closet opposite the entrance.
Tuesday/Thursday: on the shelf in the foyer closet to the left as you enter the building.

PLEASE NOTE (Repeat for late arriving new singers)

If you leave something at choir the notes under the section title above will tell you where to look for it.

Keep in mind that putting your name and phone number on your binders and water bottles is a good way to keep from losing such items and of getting them back quickly when you do.

LOST:
MY GREY WOOLLEN JACKET

'TAKING THE LEAD' VOCAL WORKSHOP WITH OLIVER SWAIN (Apr 5)

Hosted by the Victoria Bluegrass Association.

Great singers of all genres seem to know just the right time in a song to hit that high note, hushed tone or throw in the perfect ornament. Oliver will explore ways of treating every song and performance individually to draw out the meaning and find the opportunities to strut your stuff. Basic ornaments and technique, following the narrative, pitch stability and discovering your voice will all be covered in this workshop.
