Applications are invited for vacancies on the Health Education Thames Valley Academic Clinical Fellowship training programme in General Surgery or Paediatric Surgery at ST1or ST2 level to commence in August/September 2015.

The Postgraduate Dean has confirmed that this post has the necessary educational and staffing approvals and the post will attract an NTN (a).
The ACF will be supported in preparing applications to continue their research either for Research Training Fellowships or Post-doctoral funding if they already hold a PhD. Support and mentorship will be provided to pursue an academic career for successful candidates, in order to secure University Lectureships, Intermediate post-doctoral fellowships and clinician scientist awards. In the event that academic career progression is unsuccessful and clinical competences are met, the ACF will continue in the advertised specialty clinical training programme in accordance with the NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowships: Entry, Eligibility and Exit points for Appointments made in 2015.

Please note: There is one post available in either General Surgery or Paediatric Surgery at either ST1 or ST2 level. Shortlisted candidates for the two specialties and grades will be interviewed by one panel and the best candidate appointed. All candidates must have been through national selection and have reached the required benchmark for appointability.
Eligibility Criteria for recruitment to Specialty Training 2015 – Immigration requirements
UK and EEA nationals and doctors whose immigration status entitles them to work as a doctor in training in the UK are eligible to apply for specialty training. Evidence of immigration status would be a biometric residence card, date stamped passport and/or identity card. All of these documents need to be dated as at or prior to the application closing date.
Doctors who are not UK or EEA nationals but whose immigration status entitles them to work without restriction in the UK will be considered on an equal basis with UK and EEA nationals. Other non-UK or non-EEA nationals with limited leave to remain in the UK and whose employment will require Tier 2 sponsorship are subject to the Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT). Applicants who are subject to RLMT will not be eligible for appointment in this specialty until all suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidates have been appointed and the Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT) has been satisfied. The RLMT will not be satisfied in Round 1 of recruitment so applicants to which the RLMT applies are strongly advised to pursue their applications in Round 2 of recruitment.
