All of the following scales will be played by memory and at the minimum range required for midstate:

Important dates to remember:
Saturday, April 20th – Solo performance assessment at Croft Middle School. If your child has signed up, they will have their performance times by April 9th
Monday April 22nd – Bellevue Solo Chamber Night. If your child DID NOT sign up for the Saturday Croft assessment, your child will have their performance time by April 9th.
May 2-4 – Symphonic Band Competition trip to Gatlinburg.
Thursday May 9th – Spring Concert starts at 6:30
Friday May 10th – 6th grade non symphonic Band trip to Dollywood.
May 13th and 14th – Metro Honor Band (we are supposed to find out who made it the week of April 8-12)
This begins Monday after school and All day Tuesday with the Concert Tuesday night
Thursday May 16th – Band Banquet / 1.  A Positive attitude and desire to improve every day

Classroom Expectations/Rules
1.  Always try your best at everything: ie… following instructions, performing, listening, helping.
2.  Always be willing to share your head and heart: be helpful to others when appropriate.
3.  Always stay silent and listen carefully when the teacher is teaching and when students are trying to answer questions.
Redos/Retakes Procedures
Written tests - may only be retaken after the request form for retakes has been filled out by the student and signed by the parent. No more than 2 retakes per test will be allowed per student.
Playing tests - may be retaken as many times as it takes to achieve the grade desired, but will also require a request form for the test retake with the parent’s signature required. Re-playing tests that are expected by memory must be performed live outside of the regular class time. Some tests may be able to be played before I begin class but will only have time for one person. Before school and after school are best. Playing tests not expected from memory may be recorded and sent via email or smart music if possible or also played live.
No retakes (written or performed on instrument) will be allowed within 1 week before the end of the grading period.
Grading Scale
The grading legend for grades 5-8 shall be:
A = 100 - 93
B = 92 - 85
C = 84 - 75
D = 74 - 70
F = 69 - 50
I = Incomplete / Grading Philosophy
·  The method of determining grades should be uniform from class to class and school to school throughout the system, yet provide opportunity for the teacher to consider the individual differences of students.
·  The grading system should be simple and easily understood by educators, parents and the community at large.
·  Grades should be documented and based upon objective measure.
Grading Procedures Grades 5-8 / Effort Rubric 5-8
• Overall grades are based on work products that address grade level standards.
• Grades should reflect student mastery of grade level content standards and a separate grade given for overall effort using the effort rubric.
• Within each category, grades shall be determined and recorded using multiple forms of assessment that demonstrate proficiency in a standard, including but not limited to:
o Projects/presentations
o Performance tasks
o Formative and Summative Assessments
o Portfolio Assessments
o Written performance
• Students will have multiple opportunities to demonstrate proficiency.
• Students will be given additional opportunities to show mastery of standards thus extra credit will not be assigned.
• Do not include zeros in grade determination when evidence is missing or as punishment; use alternatives, such as reassessing to determine real achievement, or use “I” for Incomplete or Insufficient Evidence (O’Conner, 2007)
• Do not reduce marks on “work” submitted late; provide support for the learner.
• Behavior will not be included in grades. See *Effort Rubric 5-8
• For grades 5-8, students’ scores on the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment will make up 10% of the student’s yearly (final) average in the subject areas of mathematics, reading/language arts, science, and social studies.
• In grade 8, the semester grade for a course with no state end-of-course exam shall be determined by each nine-week grade counting equally with the examination counting as a regular test grade.
• In grade 8, the semester grade for a course with a state end-of-course exam, the grade shall be determined by each nine-week grade counting 37.5% and the examination grade counting 25% during the semester in which the end-of-course exam is given. The exam given at mid-year will be included as a regular test grade.
• Seventy (70) percent mastery of the subject matter shall be considered passing. / 4 points
