Job Purpose:
To contribute to the provision of high quality, innovative and engaging teaching, research, enterprise and/or professional activity as a member of the Accounting teaching team and in collaboration with others, benefiting our students.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties and responsibilities are intended to give a broad indication of the variety of tasks that a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer may be expected to undertake, although this is not an exhaustive list of activities, and employees may be asked to undertake other duties which are commensurate with the grade and circumstances.
Teaching
  1. Design, develop, deliver and assess teaching materials across a range of modules, programmes and courses in the Accounting subject area at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  2. Consistently and pro-actively contribute to quality teaching and related activities across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, drawing on own areas of expertise such as Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Corporate Finance, Auditing, Taxation and/or Corporate Governance.
  3. Collaborate with colleagues, Subject Head, Dean and Associate Deans on the development of existing and new programmes with the view of continuous improvement.
  4. Develop teaching strategies, materials and assessments which are inclusive and appropriate to the student population.
  5. Act as the programme/module leader, taking responsibility for allocated programmes/modules and coordinating activities, resources and assessments.
  6. Act as the personal tutor and academic supervisor to a group of allocated students, pro-actively engaging with all students ensuring feedback is provided in a timely and appropriate manner.
  7. Identify innovative approaches to teaching and learning relative to the UEL student population, reviewing and revising as and when necessary.
  8. Use listening, interpersonal and pastoral care skills to deal with sensitive issues concerning our diverse student body.
  9. Contribute to the curriculum development through identifying the need to review the current provision and designing and developing course proposals in consultation with the Subject Head and academic colleagues.
Research
  1. Develop, sustain and implement a personal research plan in consultation with the Subject Head, Associate Dean and/or Dean.
  2. Active involvement in supervision of research students.
  3. Develop research proposals, individually or as a part of a group of academics contributing to the University’s research programme and REF.
  4. Write up and publish research outputs.
  5. Contribute to knowledge transfer and dissemination of research findings and advance the academic debate in the area of expertise.
  6. Engage in continuing personal and professional development, gaining or maintaining relevant professional qualifications and accreditations.
Other
  1. Contribute to university activities, particularly those intended to enhance the student experience and improving attainment gap between BAME and white students.
  2. Participate and actively engage in university activities, including Open Days, school meetings, committees and assessment boards.
  3. Work with external partners and organisations promoting UEL.
  4. Contribute to the planning and implementation of the organisational strategy at school and subject level.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
CRITERIA / ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
Education, qualifications and achievements / PhD/professional doctorate in Accounting or related subject area (A/C)[1]or a postgraduate qualification plus relevant industry experience (applicants’ for a Lecturer post are expected to complete their PhD/professional doctorate within the 12 months probationary period)
HEA Fellowship (or willing to obtain this within 12 months’ probationary period) (A/C) / Relevant professional accreditation such as ACCA, ACA, CIMA, AIA, CIOT, CIPFA (C)
PGCert and/or another relevant teaching qualification and/or accreditation (C)
Knowledge and experience / Significant experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level (applicants’ for a Lecturer post are expected to demonstrate the ability to teach) (A/I/T)
Comprehensive experience of curriculum design and development (applicants’ for a Lecturer post are expected to demonstrate understanding of curriculum design and development) (A/I)
Demonstrable ability to teach in core subject areas (I/T)
