Description of Gabrovo municipality
Gabrovo municipality is situated in the centre of Republic of Bulgaria, with a territory of 555.579 km² and population of 69 976 people. The municipality consists of 134 settlements – 133 villages and the city of Gabrovo as its administrative and economic center. The city is located along Yantra River in the northern suburbs of Shipka Pass in the Balkan Mountains. Its strategic location turns the city into a significant transport junction. The road link from north to south passes through Gabrovo – it’s a part of trans-European transport corridor № 9. Technical University-Gabrovo is a well-positioned educational institution, working in cooperation with the business. Leading economic branches are machine-building, tooling, mechatronics, electronics, production of plastics, shoes, cosmetics, textile, knitwear, etc. Over 50% of the territory of Gabrovo is covered by forests, predominantly beech-trees. 20 km from Gabrovo, in the Balkan Mountains, is located Uzana Resort, which offers excellent opportunities for tourism, mountain biking and ski sports.
The city is known with its industrial past, revival spirit, the sense of humor and self-irony of its citizens. It has exquisite stone bridges, churches, revival buildings, an open-air ethnographic museum, restoring the Revival period, contemporary high-tech companies, modern productions, along with a museum “House of Humor and Satire” and an annual Carnival of Humor.
The organization of the healthcare in the municipal and schools, kindergartens and crèches
There are 14 schools in Gabrovo municipality and in each of them there is an equipped medical room, where medical service provided by a specialist with a medical background.
There are 10 kindergartens in Gabrovo municipality, 4 of which have 2 separately operating establishments. In the kindergartens there are 13 medical rooms and service is provided by 14 medical specialists.
In the 3 crèches of Gabrovo municipality, by 27 medical specialists provide care for the children aged up to 3 years.
Gabrovo municipality interests regarding the present call of the bilateral fund
The municipality is interested in learning new approaches and enlarging its capacity regarding the role of municipality in the organization of the children’s and students’ healthcare.
Expectation from the Norwegian partner
To organize a visit of 10 specialists, involved with organization of municipal healthcare and/or directly working in the municipal schools, kindergartens and crèches, including;
- presenting of the organization of work, the municipal structure and management of healthcare provision in the Norwegian establishments;
- A visit in the centers/rooms/establishments involved with healthcare provision;
- meeting with municipal/regional employees, responsible for healthcare provision and/or with healthcare specialists;
