1. Care Act 2014: SCIE resources for local authorities and care providers
The Care Act introduces new responsibilities for local authorities. It also has major implications for adult care and support providers, people who use services, carers and advocates.
SCIE provides guidance, practical resources, training and consultancy to help implement the letter and the spirit of the Care Act.
The resources produced by SCIEare part of a suite of tools commissioned by the Department of Health, Local Government Association, the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services and the Care Providers Alliance.

  1. Deprivation of liberty: 27 case examples to help social workers comply with landmark ruling
The Law Society has issued a summary of 27 deprivation of liberty legal cases, including seven it advises should not be followed, in a bid to help social workers, best interest assessors and other professionals comply with a landmark Supreme Court ruling. The summary of key cases, which can be downloaded here, is included as part of new comprehensive practice guidance on deprivation of liberty. The guidance, which was commissioned by the Department of Health, also contains practical case studies involving a range of scenarios including care homes, hospitals, supported living, and care for under 18s.
  1. Stop the Traffik campaign around Human Trafficking and the Modern
Slavery Bill
Over the last three years more than 1,000 men, women and children were identified as potential victims of labour trafficking in the UK. In 2012 that figure increased by 11 per cent and is predicted to continue to rise.Stop the Traffik encourages action around the inclusion ofsupply chains legislation in Modern Slavery Bill:

  1. Cheshire East Council : The Care Act
Cheshire East Council have launched their Care Act web pages -
The team working on the introduction of the Care Act in Cheshire East have also launched an animation to help explain the key changes that have recently come into place with the Care Act.
Working in partnership with the North West Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS), Cheshire East Council has taken the lead on producing the 3 minute film.

The animation has been developed specifically as a tool for communicating the key changes the Care Act will bring to all of our audiences, including staff, members, key stakeholders and members of the public.

Attached Guidance from National Institute for Health Care Excellence (NICE) regarding excess winter deaths & morbidity and the health risks associated with cold homes.
