Transferring students (internal at UP): 30 June
Student administration will inform the successful applicants no later than end of August.
Transferring students (currently studying Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology at another university): 15 January
Student administration will inform the successful applicants no later than end of January.
1.DEPARTMENTAL INTAKE OF STUDENTS AT FIRST-YEAR LEVEL
The departmental intake process is in accordance with the requirements for admission to any field of study, as specified in the General Regulations of the Faculty of Humanities. Consequently, the admission requirements of both the University of Pretoria and the Faculty of Humanities have to be met for intake in the first year of study.
1.1 Total intake:
BA Speech-Language Pathology programme: 50 (5 places of the 50 reserved for transferring students)
BA Audiology programme: 50 (5 places of the 50 reserved for transferring students)
1.2MINIMUM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS TO THE FIRST YEAR OF STUDY
1.2.1Equity distribution: At least 40% of accepted candidates must fit the equity profile of the faculty and department.
1.2.2Only students who indicated that BA Speech-Language Pathology or BA Audiology is their first choice will be considered.
1.2.3Applicants must have a minimum APS of 32 to be considered.
1.2.4Applicants must adhere to the following minimum requirements:

1.2.5Selection to both these degrees is done on the strength of the applicant’s academic record.
2.DEPARTMENTAL PROGRESS CRITERIA TO THE SECOND YEAR OF STUDY
2.1 All students who wish to proceed with the Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology programme are subjected to an evaluation process.
The evaluation process takes place after examinations at the end of the second semester of the first year of study. A student must have obtained a minimum average of 60% for the main subjects which are Audiology (ODL), Speech-Language Pathology (SPP) and Speech Science (SWL).
2.2.EVALUATION PROCEDURE
The evaluation procedure is as follows:
- Students will be informed about the evaluation process in the beginning of the year.
- Students at risk will be identified in June and referred to the departmental tutors.
- The head of department, in consultation with the Programme Manager and the Faculty of Humanities Student Administration, verifies the November examination results to determine who will proceed to the second year.
- The Faculty of Humanities Student Administration will forward the final outcome of the evaluation results to the students.
3.TRANSFERRING STUDENTS
3.1Students studying for another degree at UP or another university:
3.1.1In each of the two degrees, the first 5 students who adhere to all the requirements stipulated here will be accepted.
The evaluation process in November applies to transferring students as well.
University students who apply for a transfer to the Department includes applicants who already hold a tertiary qualification, applicants registered at UP for another field of study, but who have not yet obtained their degree or applicants who, in the year of application, are registered at another tertiary institution, but have not yet obtained a tertiary qualification, nor will be finalists at the end of that year.
3.2 Students studying for a degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology at another university:
Students who wish to transfer to the University of Pretoria must first apply for admission. If all the admission requirements of the Faculty of Humanities and those of the department are met, the student’s application for transfer can be considered.
Students transferring at the end of the first year must also have an average of 60% in corresponding ODL, SPP and SWL modules.
3.3Minimum admission requirements:
