Valladolid University

(This should be read in conjunction with the more general information on Studying at university in Spain)

This is an established university in a quiet area of Old Castile, where legend has it that the best Spanish of Spain is spoken. It is two-hours by train or bus North of Madrid.

This is the person responsible for the exchange, and to whom you should go for information in the first instance. You should see her as soon as you arrive, and she will help you with the choice of courses.

·  The webpage of the University of Valladolid is: www.uva.es ; you can find information about courses by searching under www.fyl.uva.es. It is likely that you will get an email either directly from them or via us, with details about matriculation, and that you are invited to fill in an electronic form and return a printed version of it.

Additionally, the box marked VALLADOLID in the Seminar Room (36) contains maps and other information that you may find useful.

·  Valladolid is two hours north of Madrid, so once you arrive in Barajas (Madrid airport) you can take a taxi to either the bus station or the train station. You should be getting information on getting there with the Guide for Socrates students from Valladolid. There is a section on Information for Erasmus students, including a number of relevant forms (accommodation, presessional course, etc.) under Relaciones Internacionales on the Valladolid webpage. Recently, Ryanair have started a direct flight Standstead-Valladolid which you may like to check.

·  Information on accommodation will also be sent to you. Some previous Socrates students at Valladolid seemed to think that staying in a hall of residence was a good idea; others thought cheaper accommodation could be found in town. Difficult to give you forceful advice on this one, and you may like to arrive a few days earlier to explore the situation for yourself. Valladolid also offers a good presessional course, which you need to pay for, but it seems good value - recommended.

·  You should contact some of them for first-hand experience.

·  Students who have been to Valladolid:

Sarah ABDENNADHER (Spanish & French), ,

Marianne WINTER (Spanish [& IR, though she only studied Spanish there), .

Kate Limburn (Spanish & Geography), ,

Allison McFarland (Spanish & French), ,

Rupert Ulm (Spanish Single Honours),
