SUBJECT: / Revised Older Americans Act Senior Nutrition Program Standards
Purpose: / To issue the final revised Senior Nutrition Program Standards.
Background: / The Older Americans Act requires certain standards to operate congregate and home delivered nutrition services
The program standards needed to be updated to reflect current requirements and dietary guidelines published in January 2016
What’s new, changed, or
Clarified / The revised standards reflect:
·  Changes in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and the Dietary Reference Intakes;
·  Requirements and recommendations of the Older Americans Act Nutrition Programs;
·  OAA required days of operation and documentation requirements
·  Recommendations from the standards work group;
·  Additional comments from AAAs and senior nutrition services providers.
The MB is amended to provide further clarification that senior nutrition service providers will need time to transition to full implementation of the revised standards.
AAA’s will adjust program monitoring requirements to reflect September 1, 2016 as deadline for Senior Nutrition Programs (SNP) to fully implement revised standards. During this transition program monitoring should be adjusted accordingly.
ACTION: / Effective March 1, 2016 Area Agencies on Aging must begin to implement the new standards for Senior Nutrition Programs. SNP’s will fully implement the revised standards no later than September 1, 2016.
