Mr. John Lickfett is the Business Operations Lead and financial analyst for the Department of Security, Energy, and Environment (SEE), of the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago.

SEE was started in September 2009 under the direction of Dr. Doug Himberger. The Department is dedicated to furthering NORC’s mission of providing high-quality social science research in the public interest. The Department will deliver cutting-edge research in security, energy, and the environment, and the connections between these issues in a complex and changing world. Working as a thought leader and partner with its clients, the Department will design a research agenda to identify evidence-based options to help clients act on current and emerging challenges. The Department will draw upon NORC’s strengths in data collection, analysis, and dissemination; policy analysis; program support; and evaluation. In providing these services, the Department will inform the work of governmental and non-profit groups, helping to shape policy formulation and implementation while fostering behavioral change.

The NORC at the University of Chicago, established in 1941, is one of the largest and most highly respected social research organizations in the United States. NORC Headquarters is located on the University of Chicago campus at 1155 East 60th Street, Chicago, Illinois. It also has offices in Chicago’s downtown Loop and in Bethesda, Maryland.

NORC’s mission is to conduct high-quality social science research serving the public interest. As a non-profit organization affiliated with an academic institution, NORC will not perform research with the intent of furthering commercial interests. NORC conducts numerous research projects involving opinion survey and other data collection and technology strategies. NORC’s projects are focused in a number of topical areas: society and culture; economics and population; education and child development; health studies; substance abuse; mental health; criminal justice; statistics and methodology; technology; and security, energy, and the environment. Within each area, NORC designs and implements surveys and other data collection strategies, conducts advanced statistical and other complex analysis, provides technical assistance, and applies advanced technologies.
