THE MANAGAMENT OF PRE- OPERATIVE ANXIETY”.

6.BRIEF RESUME OF THE STUDY

6.1 Need for the study :

Surgical patients have a high incidence of Anxiety . Even with the modern advancement of instruments and procedures the fear of the procedures has not come down. Even for minor surgical procedures the patients become more anxious towards the operating room, the diseased condition, the surgical procedures and its outcome. Relief of this Anxiety is accomplished by pharmacological i.e., administration of drugs and Non Pharmacological i.e., Psychotherapy measures. In some cases Psychotherapy may be insufficient to allay these symptoms. Hence it is customary and traditional to administer Anxiolytic medication. Use of medicines to relieve Pre-Operative Anxiety can be considered as one of the Yukti Vyapashraya Chikitsa

In Ayurveda no drugs are mentioned for the management of Pre-Operative anxiety. Therefore Ayurvedic Surgeons use Modern Anxiolytic Medications . Hence there is a need to find out an effective medicine for Pre-Operative Anxiety from Ayurvedic Materia Medica .Hence here a study is designed to “Evaluate the Role of Tagaradi Compound as Pre-Operative Anxiolytic Drug.

Drugs which are taken in this study which includes Tagara (Vallerina wallichi) , Kushmanda (Benincasa hispida) , Ashvagandha (Withania somnifera) and Karpoora (Cinnamonum camphora) are having sedative and Anxiolytic property”.
