TUITION REMISSION ANNOUNCEMENT

Tuition Remission requests for the 2014 SUMMER SESSIONSat UMCP are now being accepted. The TR-ELF forms should be submitted electronically through the “Electronic Forms” link on ARES for all requests (employee, spouse, dependent, graduate assistant) for courses at UMCP. You must continue to use the USM Paper Tuition Remission Form to request benefits for any other USM campus including UMUC.Access to both forms is available at ‘Forms’.Additional material, including the TR-ELF Manual and Tip Sheets, are also available at that website.

Summer Credit Limits at UMCP:

FULL-TIME: Up to8 credit hourswhich may be taken in either summer session or spread out over both sessions.A separate form must be submitted for each Summer session.

PERMANENT PART-TIME (50% or more): Credit hours are prorated according to the FTE.

SPOUSE/DEPENDENTS:Up to 8 credits hourswhich may be taken in either session or distributed over both sessions.A separate form must be submitted for each Summer session.

Please keep the following procedures in mind when filling out the electronic TR-ELF form:

-The form is at Use your ARES ID and password to access that site.

-At the ARES Home page, go to the “Electronic Forms” link to get to the ELF system, and then click on the “Access My Forms” link.

-Click on the “New Form” button in the upper left corner of the page. This opens up a new page with a box that says “Available Forms”. Select “Tuition Remission Request” to open the TR form.

-Much of the information on the first 2 pages of the TR-ELF form has been inputted by PHR. Please review that information to make sure it is correct.

-Once you have completed all sections of the TR-ELF form, click on the “Send” button to forward the form to Charles Bagley in HR for processing.

Your Tuition Remission form must first be submitted to HR in Facilities Management and then approved at the College ParkUHR office. You may then take your approved form when you register. Eligible employees (those hired before January 1, 1990) may use thespouse and dependents benefit at any USM institution. All other employees may use the spouse and dependents benefit at the employee’s home institution only unless they meet the exception criteria.A copy of the approved form may be given to the employee for their spouse/dependent and should be shown to the Office of the Bursar at the time payment is made. To be eligible for Summer 2014 benefits, employees must have an active PHR appointment by June 14, 2014 for Summer I and by July 14, 2014 for Summer II.

The final datesfor acceptance of electronic Tuition Remission forms for College Park are:

Summer Session I – June 16, 2014Summer Session II - July 28, 2014

Forms received after the deadline will not be processed.

***A SEPARATE FORM MUST BE SUBMITTED FOR EACH SUMMER SESSION.***

UMUC requires that they receive tuition remission requests no later than 10 days after registration. If you plan to attend a USM institution other than UMCP, please check with that institution regarding their policies for accepting our Summer tuition remission benefits.

**PLEASE TRY TO SUBMIT YOUR FORMS BEFORE THE PAYMENT DUE DATE INDICATED ON THE STUDENT INVOICE ISSUED BY THE OFFICE OF THE BURSAR TO AVOID LATE FEES AND/OR CANCELLATION OF COURSE(S). CHECK THE SUMMER SCHOOL CLASS SCHEDULE FOR PAYMENT DUE DATES**.

The deadline for Tuition Remission requests and the benefit limits for other campuses in the system are established by those campuses. Please contact those institutions for deadlines and credit limits. Please call Chuck Bagley at ext. 53220 if you need assistance contacting those campuses.

GRADUATE ASSISTANTS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO SUBMIT A TUITION REMISSION REQUEST!

Tuition Remission covers the standard tuition costonly!! It does not cover registration fees, application fees, late fees, departmental surcharges, etc. Programs excluded from Tuition Remission benefits include: Young Scholars, the Arts at Maryland and other summer programs for High School students; UMEI courses, Freshmen Connection, and other non-degree carrying classes or below level 100 courses.
