The Department of Mathematics, Science, and Instructional Technology Education in the College of Education is seeking applications and nominations for an eminent science education scholar available August 2016. The Taft Distinguished Professorship is a full-time, nine month faculty appointment as a tenured or tenure-track Associate Professor or full Professor. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

The Taft Distinguished Professorship in Science Education will be charged with developing and providing leadership in support of K-16 STEM Education in eastern North Carolina schools and at East Carolina University. A major role of the Endowed Professorship will be to work closely with the ECU Center for STEM Education and its Executive Director, which plays a central role in strengthening the collaborative relationships among K-12 schools in the region and STEM university faculty in education, arts and sciences, technology, and computer science, and medicine. This position also requires teaching one or more courses each semester, an active and continual search for external funding from federal agencies, and partnership with the members of the STEM Collaborative for Research in Education (STEM CoRE) on projects and initiatives. The responsibilities of this position are all aligned with promoting an educational environment for teacher preparation for K-12 science education.

Minimum qualifications include the following: doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D.) in science education or related field; three or more years teaching secondary science; experience with distance education; experience advising graduate students; active participation in professional organizations (e.g. NARST, ASTE, NSTA); substantial record of active scholarship and research; record of successfully securing external funding. Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received by appropriately accredited institutions.
