NOTICE RE: GRADUATE ASSISTANT (GA) POSITIONS AVAILABLE FOR FALL TERM 2016(Revised 08-24)

In accordance with Article 12:01 of the CUPE 4580 Collective Agreement the Department of Communication, Media & Film invites applications for GA positions for the Fall 2016 term. The total number of Graduate Assistantships allocated to the Department of Communication, Media & Film for 2016/17 is 10 GAs for a total of 2800 hours.

*Each position will be for a total of 140 hours which may be comprised of any combination of hours listed in the table

All positions are subject to sufficient enrolment and final budgetary approval.

Eligibility requirements:

GA appointments shall be offered in accordance with the criteria specified in Article 12:03 of the Collective Agreement. The following are additional specific criteria required for the appointments above:

Required qualifications:

Must have taken the course with a minimum GPA of 75%; must have good communication skills; must be available to attend courses/*TUTORIAL LABS /lectures/ and proctor mid and final exams at the specified times on the SIS calendar uwindsor.ca/timetables .

Preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who have background in the area or in the course listed.

Note that preferred qualifications will only be considered if there are 2 or more applicants who meet the required essential qualifications and who are relatively equal based on the criteria in 12:03.

Graduate Assistants must apply each term by the application deadline, in accordance with Article 13:

"With respect to those students who have applied for and been accepted for Assistantships, the Assistant will not be paid for any shortfall of hours at the end of their respective program, provided the University has satisfied its obligation to post available positions each term in writing and on the AAU website and to offer the minimum terms of support in accordance with Article 13:01 (a) & (b) and provided that the Assistant has applied in writing or via e-mail by the application deadline for each term until they have received the minimum terms of support in accordance with Article 13:01 (a) & (b)."

"Students must maintain fulltime registration throughout the term and must be in good standing in the degree program in order to hold a Graduate Assistantship. Students who meet the Phase I tuition refund deadlineare therefore not eligible to hold a GA."


A full graduate assistantship requires an average of 10 hours per week for a maximum of 140 hours per semester. Refer to Articles 12, 13, and 14 of the Collective Agreement for eligibility details. All new GAs hired will be required complete the online accessibility training atuwindsor.ca/ohrea/customer-service-trainingand provide their certificate of completion to CMF Dept. . If you have already completed this training, please submit your certificate along with your application. Please note:CMF will only compensate GAs under contract, one time, for 1.5 hours to complete the training if not previously completed.
