Position: Host / Hostess

Position Summary: The main functions of the Host/Hostess are to facilitate the prompt and accurate seating and service of all guests, accept payment for food and beverages, and make proper change and helps servers in assuring quality customer service

Accountabilities: The host/hostess must meet and greet guests in a warm friendly manner, making them feel comfortable and welcome in our establishment. Must be organized and have the ability to prioritize and keep control and a smile when pressure arises. Must have the ability to multi task and keep busy at all times.

Qualification Standards

Education & Experience:

  • Previous experience in a restaurant setting preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Tools & Equipment:

  • Calculator, computer, telephone
  • Credit card authorization machine, cash register, touch screen monitor, printer
  • Carpet sweeper or vacuum, carbonated beverage dispenser, Juice Machine

Work Environment:

  • Under variable temperature conditions
  • Under variable noise levels
  • Outdoors/Indoors
  • Around chemicals, fumes and or odor hazards
  • Around dust and or mite hazards

Physical Requirements:

  • Long hours sometimes required
  • Light work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • Ability to work under variable temperatures and noise levels
  • Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach with your body and arms
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for lengthy periods of time

  • Oral and Written Comprehension and Expression - Must be able to convey & understand information and ideas in English
  • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately

  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by co-workers and guests
  • Mathematical Reasoning - Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions
  • Multi-lingual skills helpful

Duties & Functions

Essential:

  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service oriented manner
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform
  • Greet and seat guests at appropriate tables in a timely manner
  • Provide guests with menus
  • Greet guests and seat them at tables or in waiting areas
  • Assign patrons to tables suitable for their needs
  • Prepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glassware
  • Assign patrons to tables suitable for their needs
  • Inspect dining and serving areas to ensure cleanliness and proper set up
  • Speak with patrons to ensure satisfaction with food and service and to respond to complaints
  • Receive and record patrons dining reservations
  • Maintain contact with kitchen staff, management, and serving staff to ensure that dining details are handled properly
  • Inform patrons of establishment specialties and features
  • Actively looking for ways to help people
  • Be aware of guests needs, assist in providing a pleasant dining experience
  • Collect money or credit cards from guests and servers as needed
  • Be up to date on all guest services, promotions and events in the Hotel
  • Assist with bussing dishes, side work and or keeping a tidy appearance in the outlet as necessary
  • Accurately complete daily cash out report

Marginal

  • Other duties as required
  • Pour coffee and visit tables during busy periods
  • Knowledge of F&B procedures and serving standards
  • Knowledge of Health Department rules and regulations
  • Participate in hotel and department meetings as requested

Keltic Lodge at the Highlands functions 7 days a week, 24 hours a day from mid May to mid October.
