The main task is to build a simulator of the power converter for an actuation control unit (ACU), which simulates miscellaneous operations.
This diploma thesis deals with the module temperature, synchronisation and RS422 of the power converter simulator with the following functions:
temperature: Regulation of 4 galvanic isolated and adjustable resistors
Sync: Delivering of a tuneable 12.5MHz clock signal which contains an adjustable blanking interval as a synchronisation signal.
RS422 – creation of coupling between USB and RS422 Interfaces
Realization / The three module parts were divided among the authors.
All parts communicate with the PC via an USB-Interface. The incoming data is stored in the DualPort-RAM of the FPGA, the module parts can retrieve it for further processing.
The temperature module part replaces the thermal detectors with digital potentiometers. The DPRAM-Data is converted to SPI Interface and controls the value of the potentiometers. The signals are transmitted by optocouplers, where the galvanic isolation takes place.
The 12.5MHz synchronisation signal is provided by an external oscillator. In order to obtain a better pulling range, two quartz oscillator signals are mixed. The filtered output signal of the mixer is fed into the FPGA where a blanking interval is added to the 12.5MHz clock.
The RS422-data is received and converted into SPDIF in the FPGA. The MAX3077 transfers it to the RS422 output. The receiver part of the RS422 interface composes of the CS8416 SPDIF receiver, where the data is being decrypted and transferred to the FPGA for further processing.
Results / The FPGA hardware, chipware and also the software for the control unit (user’s PC) has been successful developed. All module parts were
combined and tested successfully in several test runs.
