Work pattern Monday to Friday, 8am to 6.pm. Hours may vary to suit the requirements of the post. TOIL in effect.

JOB PURPOSE

The post holder will help to maintain and interpret the content of the Digital Film Archive (DFA). In particular, the post will focus on the curation of UTV archive content. The post holder will be responsible for developing programmes and managing activity that showcases thismaterial,and the broader collection,in innovative ways – reaching new audiences and raising the profile of the DFA, UTV archive project and Northern Ireland Screen’s related cultural, educational and outreach programmes.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with Senior Curator and partner organisations – The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland and ITV – to curate, interpret and make accessible UTV archive material and promote the UTV digitisation and partnership projects;
  • Curate moving image archival content to showcase the DFA to new and existing audiences. This will include researching and preparing material for a broad range of activity – including screenings, exhibitions and illustrated talks;
  • Provide curatorial input to ongoing digitisation projects, such as the UTV digitisation programme and ‘Unlocking Video Heritage’. Duties will include helping to research and prioritise moving image material for selection for such programmes. The post-holder will also support project staff with related research, cataloguing, rights and technical queries;
  • Work closely with Senior Curator and Marketing Department to develop social media content and raise visibility of DFA, UTV digitisation and access and related programmes. This will include identifying material/stories for press, curating material for Collections and News sections of the website and editing material for promotional use.
  • Develop partnerships with other cultural, educational and outreach organisations – both in NI and beyond – exploring opportunities for NI moving image heritage to be utilised creatively in new collaborations;
  • Assist Senior Curator in conducting an initial audit and maintaining an inventory of moving image collections across Northern Ireland, identifying potential material for digitisation – via the UTV, Unlocking Video Heritage or other such programmes. This will include helping to conduct physical inspections and collate data;
  • Oversee Northern Ireland Screen’s participation in Reimagine, Remake, Replay. This innovative project will seek to connect young people and heritage in multiple, meaningful ways through creative media and the latest digital technologies – from 3D printing to Virtual Reality film-making.
  • Assist Senior Curatorand colleagues in Funding and Production, in implementing and maintaining an internal workflow for the ongoing preservation of digitised content and Northern Ireland Screen funded material;
  • As required, assist with the cataloguing and upkeep of current and/or future DFA-related databases and/or online platforms.
  • As required, assist project staff in the delivery of DFA Outreach and related Access programmes (Sites and Facilitators);
  • As required, represent Northern Ireland Screen at heritage and archive forums and meetings. This includes the NI Moving Image Heritage and Archive working group, Film Archives UK, EUscreen and BFI Nations and Regions (archive) meetings.

  • Work with all Northern Ireland Screen staff in the implementation of an integrated approach to the development of the screen industry in Northern Ireland.

  • Such other duties as may, from time to time, be required by the Senior Curator, Head of Education and Heritage and the Chief Executive.
