Dementia Service SupportWorker: The Redwood Centre,
Haywards Heath
Responsible to:Dementia Services Coordinator
Responsible for:Volunteers, members, visitors and carers
Hours:2 x Saturdays per month, 8hrs per day
Main purpose of job:
To provide assistance to members with movement around the centre, interaction,
lunch service and participation in activities.
To assist the Dementia Service Coordinator in the smoothoperation of the
service.
Main Duties:
- Work with the Dementia Service Coordinatorto ensure the smooth operation of the service. Duties will include greeting members to the centre, both new and existing; supporting members with activities, lunch, transport.
- To assist the Dementia Service Coordinator in developing the activity programme within the service ensuring activities are appropriate and stimulating and feedback and customer satisfaction are reported.
- To lead on overseeing member participation in the daily activities including lunch, transportation and actively engage with member interaction.
- To act as activity leader for some activities.
- To ensure all volunteers are supported and receive training when required.
- To work with the Dementia Services Coordinator and other team members on volunteer recruitment and retention.
- To assist the Dementia Services Coordinator to develop membership for the service to achieve income target.
- To assist the Dementia Services Coordinator to fundraise for the service.
- To act as an appointed First Aider.
- To ensure Health and Safety standards are maintained for the centre and any hazards are reported and dealt with immediately.
- Uphold Safeguarding policy reporting any concerns to Dementia Services Coordinator.
- To comply with processes and policies of the Centre in line with AWS
management systems.
- To attend training and meetings as arranged with the Dementia Services Coordinator.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate within the role as may be reasonably required by the Activity Centre Manager and Age UK West Sussex’s Head of Day Activities and Wellbeing.

Person specification
Essential / DesirableKnowledge / Understanding of the needs of older people and people with dementia / Working with volunteers.
Experience / Working with older people.
Skills and abilities / Common sense and a practical approach to problem solving.
Good organisational skills.
Able to work independently and use initiative.
Able to handle cash accurately.
Able to remain calm when faced with challenging situations.
