GS welcomed and thanked the attendees for coming to this meeting at short notice and explained that we would appreciate their comments and input for the running of the surgery. GS said that their views were important to us so that we could make improvements to the services which we provide to patients.

  1. The Practice

GS explained that we had recently had recently a visit from Care Quality Commission and explained that they visited surgeries every couple of years. In the past there was one inspector but the system had changed and they are now using 3-4 inspectors per visit. On these visits they interview staff and check all the procedures are in place. This surgery was overall good but there were some organisational matters which need attention. Dr Suleiman explained that these were being dealt with and that staff training was mandatory and the surgery had to produces certificates and evidence that these procedures had been carried out.

The surgery staff will all be attending a Safeguarding Course later this month, but unfortunately the surgery cannot be closed which will cause some problems in regard to the daily surgeries. The patients asked why this was necessary and Dr Suleiman informed that this was a way of detecting children at risk.

Dr Suleiman also informed the meeting that the contract with NHS England was coming to an end and they want to change the contract, this would not happen overnight but the budgets would be reduced by ¼ per patient. He went on to explain that this would pay for some services but he would not be able to achieve the targets sets. The targets for services such as flu would be much higher and it is not possible to force patients to have flu vaccinations.

The group were quite shocked at this and felt that the service provided would become inadequate.

  1. Conclusion

The group were wholly satisfied with the present services provided and would be unhappy to see any cuts to the service they receive. They all stated that they had on complaints with the doctors, staff or surgery services. The Group thanked Dr Suleiman and said that they had great respect for the Doctors and staff at the surgery.
