EDUCATOR’S SCHOLARSHIP

  1. General Information

The Alpha Eta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International of Women Educators awards five$500.00 scholarships annually to Duplin County students. The scholarship applicants should be high school seniors interested in entering the teaching profession. The scholarships will be awarded to the applicants who receive the highest scores.

The scholarships will be one time only for a value of $500.00. Once a student has been selected for the scholarship by Delta Eta Chapter Scholarship committee, payment will be made directly to the student to use for college expenses.

  1. Application Procedures:
  1. Any high school senior planning to enter the teaching professionmay make application. Applications for the Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha Eta Chapter Scholarshipmay be obtained from the local high school principal or school counselor or online at
  2. Completed applications should be submitted to school principals or counselors by the announced deadline. They will be forwarded to the Director of Pupil Services at the Board of Education.
  3. Applicants must provide high school transcript, SAT score, class rank, and grade point average.
  4. Applicants must summit an essay on why they desire to go into teaching. The essay should be limited to 2 pages double-spaced.
  5. Three letters of recommendation must accompany the application when it is submitted. The letter should be from someone who knows the applicant well (i.e. teacher, religious leader, employer).
  6. Honors and awards, extracurricular activities, and community/church service will be a consideration.
  7. If possible, a photograph should be attached. This is NOT required. The photograph will be returned if a stamped, self-addressed envelope is included in the application package.
  1. Selection Procedures:
  1. Applications for the Delta Kappa Gamma scholarships must be submitted to the school principals or counselors who will forward them to Director of Pupil Services at the Board of Education.
  2. The applications will be given to the scholarship committee of the Alpha Eta, Delta Kappa Gamma Society.
  3. The Alpha Eta, Delta Kappa Gamma Society scholarship committee will determine the five winners and their decision will be announced at the annual M. Austin Carter Academic Awards Reception. Student applicants are asked to be present at the awards reception.

  • List all academic honors and extra-curricular/community activities separately by grade year (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th).
