Mint Julep
Ingredients:
1 750 mL bottle of Maker's Mark Bourbon
2 large bunches of Kentucky Colonel Mint
1/3 cup deionized H2O
2/3 cup of RNase-free, reagent grade sucrose
Directions:
[ ] 1. Remove the leaves from the mint stems and bruise them by rolling them between your hands.
[ ] 2. Combine the bruised leaves, sucrose and water in a small saucepan.
[ ] 3. Heat and stir until the sucrose is completely dissolved.
[ ] 4. Cool to room temperature.
[ ] 5. Decant 2 cups of the bourbon from the bottle.
[ ] 6. Add the mint mixture to the bottle and mix well.
[ ] 7. Top off with the decanted bourbon and have a shot of the left over bourbon.
[ ] 8. Replace top on the bottle and place in freezer overnight.
[ ] 9. Strain the bourbon to remove leaves pour the strained julep mixture back into the bottle and top off with more of the remaining bourbon.
[ ] 10. Replace in freezer until ready to consume.
[ ] 11. Pour over ice and serve.
